I am not sure if you mean you have to do both? That would be a big duh, of course both together would be better but if you have to choose, good handwashing is the way to go. Handwashing is the only thing that is approved in food service and even doctor's do both. And also, I believe that the common hand sanitizers that we would all buy in the grocery store and convenient stores have not been proven effective against viruses.

"Hand sanitizers work by stripping away the outer layer of oil on the skin. This usually prevents bacteria present in the body from coming to the surface of the hand. However, these bacteria that are normally present in the body are generally not the kinds of bacteria that will make us sick. In a review of the research, Barbara Almanza, an associate professor at Purdue University who teaches safe sanitation practices to workers, came to an interesting conclusion. She notes that the research shows that hand sanitizers do not significantly reduce the number of bacteria on the hand and in some cases may potentially increase the amount of bacteria on the hand." Hand Sanitizers vs. Soap and Water

Even the new federal guidelines for daycares and preschools also are requiring handwashing vs. the hand sanitizer now. The common hand sanitizers do not kill all the bacteria and viruses and they don't even make that claim. Even Lysol and bleach has sit for several minutes to kill viruses and bacteria and even then it also states that it kills 99.9% of them and that is for inanimate objects that aren't as tricky as human skin.

I keep hand sanitizer with me for times when I don't have the option to wash my hands but as soon as I enter the house, I wash my hands right away and I always hand wash while preparing food. Nothing should replace handwashing entirely.

Lancaster County Water & Sewer provides water for Lancaster County. If you have your own septic tank you won't pay for sewage.

We don't have a septic tank so we pay for it monthly. We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids 11, 7, 4) and 4 dogs & 1 cat. We use approximately 5000 gallons a month and our bill is around $80 per month.

My last two water bills have been ridiculously high. Anyone else in Fort Mill see their water bills go way up recently?

My water bill in Lancaster is 50-60 dollars a month. 4 people, 3 full baths, washing machine and dish washer. However, I usually end up paying an additional 5.00 every month since it takes the LCWSD over 3 weeks to process my payments. I send the payment the day I receive it but they claim that its my bank that takes forever to get it to them even though they're the only ones I have a problem with!

On a side note to a poster above, those hand sanitizers are the worse thing for you and everyone else around you. WFAE (Charlotte's NPR station) Charlotte Talks had an interview with a scientist who stated that those sanitizers are contributing to the antibiotic resistant staph infection increases. I'm sure if you hit the WFAE site you'll eventually find it. The most pressing point he made though (among others) was that the claims of killing 99.9% of bacteria really is killing off the bacteria that's keeping that .01% (the really horrible stuff) in check. He stated that the only real reason why those products exist is money and nothing else.

Just something to mull over...

Just me and my six year old son and I just paid my water/sewer bill last night and it was $58.29. Half is water, half is sewer so to make sure we are all on the same page, so technically my water was about $27. Need to make sure we are comparing apples to apples. I'm in Fort Mill but technically NOT in the city limits. My bill is from York County Water and Sewer

I haven't seen any recent increase in my TC Water bill, and we pay about $70 per month. Even thought the cost hasn't changed, the bother is tenfold since they farmed out the billing to Utilities, Inc.

In Tega Cay, ours runs about $60 - 70 a month for 3 people when not irrigating. As others have said, it is probably about 50/50 water vs. sewer.

When irrigating it is about $120 - 130 a month.

We have 10 zones. 6 zones are rotors or spray, and 4 are drip. Our lot is about .7 acre, but we are probably irrigating only half to two-thirds of that. We have a separate irrigation meter, so there is no sewer charge on that.

Anything over $200 sounds high to me, depending on the acreage irrigated. I would make a friendly suggestion that you look at your zones, times, days, and durations per zone. My guess is it shouldn't take $200 - 300 a month to irrigate.

If you can't do that yourself, it might be worth having a lawn service come out and set it up for you, as paying them a bit of money may save you a hundred a month every month.

Also check your bills. Ours was charged quite a bit for the irrigation meter when I had the main shut-off valve turned off completely and had blown out the irrigation lines to winterize it. They reversed the charge after I complained, and said it was an error.
