Bad wreck with fatalities I think, as I saw sheets on the ground. Firetruck, 3 ambulances. It appeared to be a one car wreck maybe with fire.

Many of these accidents do not make the local paper.

I think they should, so the general public knows the causes of the accident.
If it was due to alcohol, people can be more aware of their drinking and driving habits. It phone texting was the cause or bad brakes or a bad tire, if the general public is more aware of these serious accidents, it makes people think about their own habits and car maintenance.

As I got closer, the concrete barriers were too high for me to see. From a distance it looked like a car upside down and no tires = fire.
It will be a miracle if no one died.

Around mile 87 between Exit 88 and exit 85, on I-77, northbound.

Anyone have details?

York County, SC | Collision diverting I-77 northbound traffic | The Herald - Rock Hill, SC

I usually go to Google's News page and put in the city and highway and it will pickup any stories on the wire. Traffic Reports | Traffic Alerts | Road Conditions | Traffic News & Delays | Traffic.com is good also, although not as many details.

Thanks for the link.

The car was in the far right lane and tried to go to the left hand lane = a 3 lane change, from lane 4 (far right) to lane 1 (far left). No other cars involved and speed not indicated as a factor.

The article did not mention fire. Maybe they blew a tire, because all I could see was one wheel and there was no tire.

Sadly, over 32,000 were killed in car wrecks nationwide in 2010. I can not imagine such a number. That is close to 90 per day.

This tables show a decline in deaths as the population has been going up.
But, also look at how the number of miles driven in billions, have dropped dramatically after 1993.
We are all driving less.
