Carolina Bistro in Indian Land reemerges as authentic Italian restaurant

Though he refuses to refer to his restaurant as “New York style,” owner Danny LaFranca can’t deny the Northern influence of the reborn Carolina Bistro on Hwy. 521.
For starters, no less than eight transplanted New Yorkers can be spotted at any given time preparing the casual Italian-American cuisine in the hectic kitchen area.
“This place is a Northern magnet,” said kitchen manager and Brooklyn native Tom Pizzo. “But when we saw what Danny brought to the table, it’s no surprise that we all came out in droves to work for him.”
Previously, under different ownership, Carolina Bistro offered a mostly pub style menu.
For the Long Island native whose grandparents ran a bakery in both Italy and Brooklyn, LaFranca’s vision behind re-opening the Carolina Bistro was simple: To re-create the food he grew up with in a relaxed setting equal parts lounge and sports bar.
