Baxter Village is wonderful
I live in Baxter Village and have a 1 yr old and 3 yr old. I could not be happier. It has so many amenities and the people here are very friendly. There are a ton of stay at home moms in this neighborhood, and it is very easy to meet people. I grew up in Tega Cay, and it is also nice...but does not have the close knit feel of Baxter. Baxter has so much...the YMCA, restaurants, shops, parks, pools, etc. I think you'd be very happy in Baxter, and the houses definitely fit your price range.

I agree with Ashley. We too live in Baxter and our neighbors (rental house) are from Oregon.
Great place to call home.

Though I don't live in Baxter, we go there often. We like Island Breeze, Six Pence, and are eager to try Liu Liu's since we haven't been.

I just wanted to say thank you all for comments and suggestions. My husband may take a job in Rock Hill and we were wondering of the places to live, school systems, and such. Moving from Indiana to SC will be trying enough with three school age children, let alone wondering where to live and what suits are needs!

autimom4ever,
I am considering relocating to the Fort Mill/Charlotte area from SC Lowcountry because of a job opportunity in Charlotte and am looking for better schools/services for my middl school aged son with Autism. Looks like I would be better off going with Union or Cabarrus Counties. Have you heard anything positive/negative about the middle school
Autism programs in these counties?

I live in Windsong Bay,in a new section of Tega Cay.Almost everyone(and I mean everyone)here has kids, and the few who don't have their houses up for sale. The house next to us is for sale.It is about 2 years old,and a single woman who traveled a lot owned it but moved to a condo uptown-the sign says "price reduced" it is practically new.
The attraction here is the Fort Mill school system,Charlotte-Mecklenburg is horrendous. The property taxes just fell tremendously-due to the schools now funded by a sales tax, instead of property tax.
You may want to look at some developments just outside of Tega Cay(Palmetto West,Waterstone,Carowoods)these are in York county, but for all practical purposes, more convenient to everything than Tega Cay.
Be careful if you drive into Tega Cay,the police set frequent traps and love to pull people over and ticket them(even residents here).

I too am from the Portland area--Sherwood to be exact and we moved here in mid-October. I'm a stay-at-home mom with a daughter that will be 3 in the beginning of February and one due right after Christmas. We found a great house in a beautiful neighborhood--Oxford Place. It's off Doby's Bridge road and is a bit of a drive into Fort Mill. I find myself driving to Pineville and the Ballantyne area quite a bit and it's pretty easy to get to from Oxford. My only complaint so far is that where we chose to live is a bit of a drive--around 20-30 minutes from shopping. However, the neighborhood is beautiful and we have plenty of space. I wouldn't mind living somewhere like a Baxter except the houses are too close together--we moved away from that set-up in Oregon and my husband is much happier.
I am having problems finding activities to do with my toddler. There doesn't seem to be a lot of programs for toddlers in this area. I have to drive to Ballantyne for Gymboree and other than an art class and a story time at the library in Fort Mill, there doesn't seem to be a lot to do. I'm sure there's more but I haven't found a resource yet that lists them all.
I would love to talk to you more about the move as I just went through it and am still adjusting to the change.

We moved to Tega Cay (Trailridge) a couple of months ago and have been very happy with the area and the schools. I am a member of yorkcountymommies, but find it is geared towards preschool age children vs school age, but it is a great source of information. We moved here from Philly without knowing a soul and my kids have had an easy time adjusting. It is a little tougher for me as a SAHM, but between the Y and volunteering at school I have met several other moms in the same boat. I spend a lot of time in Baxter and have a few friends there who love living there. For us Tega Cay is the best of both worlds, close to things but also removed a bit with tons of outdoor activities. Good luck whichever neighborhood you decide on you can't go wrong with Tega Cay or Baxter Village!
