The old Piggly Wiggly on Hwy. 200 in Lancaster is closing soon. There are rumors that another Wal Greens and McDonalds will go in there instead. I've never been a fan of the Pig -- and that store especially is old, which couldbe part of it's charm -- but it is sad to see old tings go and be replaced by something generic.
I think that is the last remaining Piggly Wiggly in the Charlotte region. But I believe they still have nicer stores around Myrtle Beach and Charleston.
There should be a small Pig in Great Falls and we have a few in Columbia, even though one did just close. I believe Sumter and Orangeburg still has at least one each as does Darlington adn Hartsville. Their web site lists a store in Clover.
It would be great to see another McDonald's on that part of town but another Walgreens? We have enough pharmacies as is. On another note I'm not sad to see Piggly Wiggly go.
I didn't know how far fetched Piggly Wigglys are. I have one 2 minutes down the road from me (Clover, SC) - but I never go in there. It looks so old, dirty and dingy. I would be nervous to buy food from there just because of how it looks from the outside.

I'm very familiar with the location of the PW in Clover...yet like you I've never set foot inside (just doesn't have the draw me in factor).
the only thing I've ever really cared about at Piggly Wigglys was their logo.
I'm not a fan of the Pig myself. I recently was too lazy to go to the grocery store of my preference when I was on my way home. Instead of crossing the interstate and going about a mile out of my way, I went to the PW in Cayce and was not impressed. The store, while not dirty, was not clean. I didn't think they had the slection of either the Bi-Lo or Reid's right down the street and the store was just not lit well.
