Lake Wylie is an easy commute to Charlotte only during non-peak traffic times. You pretty much have to use Hwy 49 which gets backed up heavily.

What are you looking for in terms of a home? Location, hospitals, interstate access, shopping, lakes? In the price range you are searching, you will be able to have many choices in the area. I have lived here almost my entire life and would be happy to answer your questions.

I agree with The Lake Wylie Man. The town of Lake Wylie offers many amenities and is the lowest tax rate in York County. Contrary to what is being posted by others, the commute to Charlotte is one of the easiest in the area.

You might want to consider the Indian Land area---the community along US 521 in Lancaster County. You would have immediate access (5 minutes or less) to the Ballentyne and Rea Road areas of Charlotte. There is a wide variety of residential communites, very low taxes, and good schools. In the 450K range, I would suggest Bridgemill by John Wieland Homes.
