family weekend getaways
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a weekend getaway with the kids. We are hosting family starting this weekend and are looking for a weekend away for just the 4 of us for the weekend after Christmas.

What about Charleston? The beach will likely still be comfortable, either SC or NC beaches. Asheville is good too.

Charleston is awesome! I love it there! And Asheville and Blowing Rock are great too.

Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach is also a very easy drive. You just take 74 east until it ends.

Weekend getaway
Head up to Asheville! You might see a little snow, who knows. Go to the Grove Park Inn. It is very expensive (and probably booked), but worth visiting without staying there. They host Southern Living's annual Gingerbread house contest, which is absolutely amazing. THere is no entry charge - - you can just go in and look around. Have a cup of hot chocolate on the back porch and enjoy some amazing views of the mountains.
There are lots of wonderful restaurants in Asheville as well. Near the Biltmore HOuse (which is also a great place to visit for the day), there are some wonderful shops and galleries.
It can be a day trip (about 2 hour drive from Charlotte), or you can stay the weekend!
