Our contractor that we normally use for big projects is not available and so we're wondering if anyone has any recommendations for local contractors that can build a screened-in patio for us?

We've contacted a few companies on Angie's List to obtain quotes, but word of mouth is always good too.

Also, anyone know the going rate on a very simple screened in 14x17 patio with a lighted ceiling fan installed? We're not looking for anything fancy - just wood, shingled roof, screening and a fan. No finished ceilings or fancy siding. And the cement patio already exists.

I was wondering if you had your porch built or not? If so, who did you end up going with? We're thinking about possibly adding a porch in the back and were looking to get some recommendations. Thanks!

We ended up not doing it. We had five companies come to our house to provide quotes, and all of the quotes were above our budgeted amount. We were very surprised, given the fact that we truly wanted a NO FRILLS back porch - just a shell, really.

One guy we had come in was very nice, and clearly did quality work based on his portfolio, but he didn't listen to my specs and came in with a quote of $18K for a screened in porch with bead board ceilings, pot lights, multiple fans, winterized windows, fancy railings and a gable roof. I'm sure that's a great price for that quality of work, but it wasn't what we WANTED.

We were looking to spend no more than $8-10K for a basic screened back porch - the lowest quote we got was $12K+, and we just didn't have that extra $2-4K laying around.
