We moved in 2006 with very similar requirements. We ended up though with 30 acres and had to move to Western York. We are indeed 40-45 minutes from the airport but let me tell you think really hard. When someone says look close to the interstate they mean it!! Honestly it's miserable because we are roughly 30-35 minutes from ANY interstate be it 85 in Kings Mtn. or 77 in Rock Hill. I don't know where your coming from but there are 2 speeds here Right Lane is Slow and it seems the Left Lane is even SLOWER and for some reason people love to "drag race" below the speed limit causing a rolling road block for miles. Most roads around here are either 1 or 2 lanes so between the traffic/drivers and the traffic lights depending on which way you go it takes a long time to get ANYWHERE. Once you hit the interstate you are pretty much close to anything you would need between 15-30 minutes, another 45 minutes to get to Northern Columbia. I work on the road so I can stop for things while out and about, my wife and kids though don't see much during the week. Rock Hill has the basics you need, Fort Mill about the same, just fewer stores. York and Clover has much less just your typical Walmart, a few local stores and very basic food and gas. Anything more than that you need to head to Charlotte, some places in CLT are just as far as Spartanburg/Greenville at about 1:10 away or so. It's not far but again, it's the traffic lights and lack of interstate speeds. Good luck on your search!

Rich..thanks..good points. Maybe I'm having selective memory, however some 40 years ago when I started driving people use to lean to the right lane when not passing, but today I think most have lost all concept of "if your not passing..try to move to the right hand lane.." rule of thumb. I see it here also..people sit in the left lane regardless of their speed..just because they prefer the left lane I guess..no clue. I nearly ran into an issue in the Netherlands years ago with a slow left lane driver. The right lane was open beside him so I passed him..passing in the right is illegal in the Netherlands..oops..

I'll be wandering around all these areas this weekend..it'll really help to see things.

Same here I think but I do not believe its enforced OR it only applies to stopped vehicles. Either way not enforced.

My experience with traffic is that everything thinks they are with NASCAR. I hardly EVER experience slow drivers in this area. But then, I don't live in the country either. I suspect there are more Sunday drivers in the boonies than the more populated areas. My grandmother lived in the boonies all her adult life - boy, were those drivers slow where she lived.

Girl if you live in Fort Mill like your avatar states how can people drive like NASCAR? You can't drive fast in gridlock.

I'm from NJ/NYC. Trust me when I say that Fort Mill doesn't have gridlock. A bit of traffic during peak times, yes, but not gridlock. And I was thinking more about I-77 for NASCAR purposes. =)

LOL so am I...Passaic county. True 77 can be bad with speed the problems I have are along Gold Hill and 160 mostly near the Interstate, no one can deny the daytime gridlock there due to the numerous lights and heavy traffic from both the ramps and retailers. But yet Gold Hill towards the old Stadium also has issues and there is not much in the way of traffic generation there. Either way I work on the road in the entire county and find that area the most difficult of them all. At one time it was only around rush hour now it seems to be all day and most of the night. :-(
