I was born in New Orleans and all old records got flooded by Katrina; I lost my birth certificate and can never get another one. I have a valid US passport, obtained as a renewal without more documentation. Can I use that for the SC driver's license when I move? Thanks!

LoL Plan on spending about 2 hours at the DMV, and that is IF you remember everything. Just go, be calm, and it will all work out. And yes, you do have to pay your car taxes in advance, not like up north...

The South Carolina DMV is run much more efficiently than the North Carolina DMV. My wife and I were there for about an hour to transfer over everything for two vehicles and get our SC licenses. In NC that would have been a full day process, if not multiple days.

Yep, I agree, BKQC, I've been to SC DMV for new licenses, tags, re-shoots for new photo for updated D/L when we moved, etc, and have never been there longer than 1/2 hr and that was when the place was packed with a line out the door.
