Default Tega Cay, Fort Mill and Nuclear Power Plants

Hi everyone - I'm not sure if this is going to sound completely insane but I'm willing to risk it.

We just relocated to the greater Charlotte area and are considering buying a home in Tega Cay. However, I just found out about the nuclear power plants that are apparently not too far away. (I'm to understand that South Carolina is 3rd in the country in production of Nuclear power...) Anyway, I was concerned about this - I know there's a lot of back and forth information in regards to whether or not living so close to such a place increases cancer risk and whatnot. Does anyone know of any incidents or violations from these plants? Does anyone know where I can get information in regards to cancer rate comparisons, etc? I absolutely loved Tega Cay overall and would hate to choose another community based on something that seems so "out there", but for some I guess it would be considered a legitimate reason to look elsewhere.

Catawba Nuclear is located off Lake Wylie (actual location York, SC)...next to Clover, SC and Lake Wylie, SC. The various areas around Lake Wylie (not already mentioned: Tega Cay, SC - Rock Hill, SC - Fort Mill, SC - Charlotte, NC - Belmont, NC.

Your question is not insane...in fact it is a question that comes up on a regular basis on the Carolina forums (North and South).

While we'd love to have you join us here in Tega Cay...the best advice I can give you...is do your own research...and then...form your own opinion.

You yourself state that there is alot of back and forth information...so I don't think...me providing you with one, or two more websites, or links will help sway you in any one particular direction.

I will also mention that my family, along with the many others that live around here have already formed our own opinions (with I'm sure...as much care and concern as you happen to be doing now)...so it should come as no surprise where our research has led us.

In closing...We love it here in Tega Cay, SC (and if it weren't so dang cold, and the lake levels were higher...we'd be at the lake right now)!

I wish you all the best!!
