Moving to York County June 3. Farmers markets where one can get local items is very important to our family. Any suggestions as to where we should go? And where do we find local peaches when the season begins?

Depends on where you live. Big county.

Peaches and strawberries will be easy. Springs Farm in Fort Mill will have plenty of both as well veggies. They offer a very affordable CSA. You can probably still sign up if you contact them now. First basket is June 2nd and runs for 10 weeks. There are a few others in the area. Bush and Vine has a good one as well.

If you go out by York, there are several farms - Bush and Vine and Black's Farm come to mind. There are apple orchards there as well.

Charlotte Farmer's Market is not far away, but I personally don't love it. It's not a grower's market so you have to be careful. On Saturdays I believe they have areas that are exclusive to growers, but in general it's just not a place I love. The best true farmer's market is Matthews, which is a grower's market and will also offer meat, eggs, etc. The environment is great. Depending on where you live, it could be a bit of a drive though. You can easily google the location.

One great thing about this area is taking a day trip to the mountains around Hendersonville, NC in the fall to go apple picking. Great fun.

You can find 4 stands within 3 miles of River Hills that offer local produce, peaches, strawberries, local honey and more. At least 3 are open 7 days a week. One stand is 1/4 mile outside the back gate.

We have friends that use the community garden in River Hills and are always dropping off fresh vegetables.
