just for the heck of it I drove through this jones branch subdivision the other day and walked through 2 model homes...for fun. And, because I have no life. LOL

Anyway, you all were very very right - way too close to highway terrible location.

Kinda sad though because the homes were really cute and built pretty well.
I don't think that's going to wind up being a very nice place after it's all said and done.

I mean, less expensive homes doesn't necessarily mean you have to live in SHLOCK-ROCK (my term for crapville).

Hi nsantamaria,
I am in the process of purchasing a home in Fort Mill & wanted to give you my 2 cents about Jones Branch. I drove by it with my realtor and that was the extent of it. It did not even warrant getting out of the car, in my opinion. The highway is a huge disadvantage, as well as the surrounding homes - very seedy & within very close proximity. Just thought you should know.............

yes again thank you. I myself drove passed it and for the heck of it went into the model home. The homes are cute and everything, I just didn't picture it so close to the highway (Even though EVERYONE was telling me it was..) you know, sometimes you have to just see something in person to get the picture of it in your mind.

There's another subdivision down the road from there - I forget what it's called..wait.. WALDEN PARK I think...it looked a little more "upscale" in terms of the homes but still, it was too close to the schools for my liking......

We currently have a contract on a home in Tega Cay but that may fall through depending on when I can close my house in Tennessee. If it does fall through, I am considering a home in Waterstone (Fort Mill). We'll see what happens. Every day brings new surprises!

We live in Walden Park. I haven't seen a negative imapact from the schools. If anything I view it as a positive. In fact, there's some in the neighborhood that walk their kids to Riverview Elementary. The high school is far enough away that there's not a traffic impact to the neighborhood. Jones Branch is in the 140,000 to 190,000 range. Walden Park is in the 230,000 - 340,000 range.

Yeah we didn't drive in but just by looking at it from a distance you can tell the houses in walden park are much nicer.

I know that for people with children it's a huge convenience to live near a school - and I'll most likely feel the same way when my daughter is ready for school, for now - I prefer to stay further from the schools ...well, at least those pesky TEENAGERS!!! LOL

I just found this site, and I think that the info posted here is a great. I am considering a move to the area in the coming months, and have found this message board very helpful. Due to my job, I need to be within a reasonable driving distance from Charlotte. I have asked for opinions on where to look for a home, and the Ft. Mill area has been mentioned to me several times. I hope to make a trip to the area soon in order to look around. Based on what I have read so far, it appears that the Schools are good and that is a Major factor. I too was a bit concerned about the power plants, but they are all over the country. I look forward to getting more feedback as to what areas are nice before I visit the area.

Smile Info on older Tega Cay homes

Hello,

My husband and I are moving to the Charlotte area and looking at real estate area this weekend. We really fell in love with all the amenities of Tega Cay with the lake, club house, swimming, etc. I really like older homes, but they need to be kept up and updated for my husband to consider. Can anyone tell me about how the older homes compare price wise to all the new construction in Tega Cay? We have not seen the interiors yet, but on paper there seem to be some very reasonably priced older homes for the amount of space listed. Is there a problem with construction on these homes that is holding the price down? How much have homes in Tega Cay appreciated in the last 5 years compared to other areas near by? If a yard has a lot of trees, are we allowed to take any down for more clear space but leaving enough for a wooded feel? Also, my 10 year old son loves to fish. What is the fishing like on Lake Wylie? My husband wants to make sure there are kids in the neighborhood. Are there a lot of young families in the older homes or are more people retired?

I know that these are a lot of questions, so thanks to anyone who can help.
