The former Kmart #7351 (960 North Main Street, Lancaster, South Carolina 29720-2187) and the adjacent former Winn-Dixie were razed several months ago. Kmart #7351 closed in 2012.

I have heard speculation either a new Lancaster County Library or a Publix would be constructed on the site.

Really? Demolished? Interesting. I was just out there late summer and it was still there. I have plenty of photos of the Kmart when it was still open, and then closed. I have a bunch of memorabilia from the store too.

No, I am not a realtor.

Several Kmart stores in South Carolina have closed and are closing. Kmart #7351 closed four years ago.

I'd love to see any photos of K Mart and Winn Dixie that you may have. I worked at K Mart briefly, but worked at that Winn Dixie for four years. Neither building was really old at all. The Winn Dixie was the oldest of the two and was probably 25 years old or so.

I love Publix, but would really love to see a new library go there. Not sure either is happening at this point

Winn-Dixie expanded in the mid-1990's and became a Winn-Dixie Marketplace store. It closed between 2000 and 2004; it was closed at the time Winn-Dixie exited South Carolina in 2005. I do not know what its store location number was, It was in the Charlotte Division, and was 20xx or 21xx.

I would like to see Publix come to Lancaster. Better and cheaper grocery options in addition to Walmart are pluses.

Link to all my photos of the Kmart store:

Winn Dixie:

So the Winn Dixie came first, and an empty lot/field was where the Kmart was built? That is a 1993 era Kmart.

Other than Walmart, is there not another grocery option in Lancaster such as BI-LO or Food Lion? And there is already a Publix in Lancaster County down the road in Indian Land. But that is actually closer to Charlotte if I recall correctly.

Both the Kmart and Winn-Dixie appeared to be decent buildings and relatively new designs, rather than some of the older versions. Not sure why they needed to be torn down. Looks like the Winn-Dixie could have been converted to another grocer, but I guess Kmart was defeated by Walmart.

There are two Bi-Los and two Food Lions as well as an Aldi in Lancaster. I can only speak for myself, but Indian Land is not Lancaster; it's South Charlotte. I do go up there some to Publix or Harris Teeter, but I think I prefer going to Rock Hill when I want to go toa better grocerer than actual Lancaster offers.
