Don't get me wrong I am all for our schools, but what I don't understand is why the property taxes were lowered just a few short months ago only to be possibly raised with this bond issue. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? How are the new operating costs for the new schools addressed? I don't know enough about school funding to draw any conclusions from what is being presented. For me it seems a no brainer, but what about the foks who don't have school aged children, how do we get them on-board?

Fort Mill is one of(or the only one)school district in SC to have an impact fee on new building that is supposed to fund the schools.I currently have three children in the Fort Mill School District.I wouldn't mind paying for the best schools in the state, but why issue bonds?

Aren't bonds money borrowed from commercial banks? Can't we pay for new schools with tax money and cut out the bankers.

The other thing that didn't set well with me was having a Communist Chinese Construction Company building the Nations Ford school.

I started to write responses to the previous two posters (in regard to the questions you may have)....but in all honestly it was becoming very time consuming. I also felt that while I may be able to address your questions...you would be better served to attend anyone of the number of informational meetings that will be taking place (in fact there will be one tomorrow evening).

The Keep Our Schools Strong committee, a community group disseminating information about the Fort Mill school district's roughly $96 million bond vote on March 4, has scheduled a number of public meetings in the coming weeks:

• 6 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Mill High School PTSA meeting to be held in the school auditorium

• 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Fort Mill Town Council meeting at town hall

• 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Gold Hill Elementary School PTA program in the gym/cafeteria

• 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Fort Mill Golf Club clubhouse, 101 Country Club Drive, Fort Mill

• 7 p.m. March 3 in the Baxter YMCA conference room

• 7 p.m. March 3 at the Tega Cay Golf Club clubhouse

I have also provided a couple of links to the Fort Mill Times on stories they have covered in the past.

Fort Mill Times — Kids cram into elementary school

Default Two issues

1. NO WAY I'll be supporting the gyms and football field portion of this bond issue. Rock Hill schools share District 3 stadium, and with all the challenges present in Fort Mill with runaway growth...FMHS football field is more than adequate for our two high schools. Sorry Nation Ford, live with it, we have bigger needs.

2. I'd like to know that the schools/property acquisition these bonds provide coincide with residential development restrictions...so that student growth and school facilities expansion are matched. If the schools built will be overrun immediately with unrestricted residential development, then what's the point? If that happens, don't come back to me for another bond issue.

The tax money is used to pay back the banks. It would be almost impossible to do it solely ith tax money due to time frames. Look at it this way, your tax on your home will go up about $8-10 each year per 100k of your home's value. Keeping the schools in Fort Mill strong will keep your property value way above that. If this bond were to be shot down, your property value would drop on March 5th as FMSD would not be as much in demand.

It's all very confusing!

Love, thanks for taking the time to post the meeting schedules.

Aqua, a Chinese construction company? Are you kidding me? Don't get me wrong I love Chinese food, but I'm with you on the whole Chinese construction company concerns.

Bond money is borrowed from investors, not banks (unless they choose to invest). The bond offerings are underwritten by commercial banks, but the money is owed to the investors who buy the bonds, and repaid to those investors out of future tax revenues.
