I have the feeling Fort Mill is the place to be, and I think if we don't get there soon, prices will skyrocket. That's exactly what happened here, 10 yrs. ago, great. Now, outrageous! I do have a question regarding weather. My husband is worried about hurricanes, whenever we hear about the Carolinas here, it's about hurricanes. I told him I think it's too far inland. Any info on that? Also, do you get many tornados? That's what I'm afraid of, when we visited TN earlier this month, the killer tornados where there, and it scared me to death! Thanks again for the info!
hello momof2boys....I think I might have answered your questions on another posting site (lovetegacaysc)? If it turns out this was/is indeed someone else I will gladly answer your questions here (could you let me know though). p.s. the only site I visit now is this one.

Oh my gosh, lovetegacaysc, it's you!! (I mean, lovethecarolinas ). Yes, it is me, I found this site as well, and thought the more info the better. I love this site! And thank you for answering my question regarding the weather, that was definitely something I wanted to know about. You are so helpful! I've been telling my husband all the information you've given, and we talk like we know you, it's pretty funny . We'd sort of settled on E. Tenn. before I had read your posts on Fort Mill, but are so excited about Fort Mill, that now, we've decided to come check it out. I don't know how in the world we'll do it with a moving truck and dogs, we'll have to figure this one out. I wish we could make another trip back before moving, but we were just there last month (I wish I'd known about Fort Mill!), and Seattle's far away! Anyway, thanks again, if I come up with more questions, I'll holler.

lovethecarolinas, I have a question for you (or anyone else that would know)- I've been checking houses online, and keep coming up with very reasonable houses in York, Clover, and a few in Lake Wylie. Any imput on schools in those towns? I'm definitely leaning towards Fort Mill, but just wanted to keep my options open as well, in case we fall in love with a house in one of those areas. I don't like the test scores of Rock Hill, so am staying away from houses there (even though the houses are amazing in price!). Schools are my top priority for me, so that's why I need advice. Thank you so much!!

I really don't know anything about the schools in York, SC so I will not speculate or pretend that I do. I do know that York is more rural, neat old main street, a great festival during the summer...but it is often mentioned by some citizens of York that they feel that they are often overlooked when it comes to the building of such things as hospitals and businesses. Regarding Lake Wylie...this happens to be an area that is call as such...but is actually part of the city of Clover,SC. You do have to be careful as well due to the fact that there is a school called Lake Wylie Elementary but it is located in Charlotte and part of the CMS school district (it does get confusing at times as we are just so close to the NC stateline). Regarding Clover I have heard that there schools are very good. If my children did not attend Fort Mill schools...Clover would be my second choice....but they too are experiencing rapid growth and trying to do their best to keep up. To keep abreast of these areas you might look at some of the local papers online: Lake Wylie Pilot (published once a week) - Fort Mill Times (published once a week) - The Herald (published in Rock Hill, daily) - Charlotte Observer (daily). Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for your help! I will keep all of this in mind when we look around. I do have another question for you. I've been trying to look up apts in Fort Mill (that would take dogs), and am coming up with nothing. I remember a posting (not sure which site) from someone staying there while their house was being built. I had thought you'd recommended it. (could be wrong). I even looked it up online to see pic's. Do you remember the name? We're trying to figure this whole moving thing out, and we just might need an apt. for a bit until hubby gets working. Not sure how that works when buying a house, I'm pretty sure they want to see a few pay stubs before giving you a house! (Then again, apts. might want that as well.) Boy, this moving thing is stressful! Thanks again, you've been a lifesaver!

First off...in Fort Mill the selection of apartments I can count on one hand...add animals to the mix..and I think we are down to 2 now. One of the 2 that are left is Palmetto Place. I have known people that have lived there in the past and currently (while their homes are being built) it is located off 160 and Gold Hill Rd. Keep in mind it is apartment living. The other option would be to see if you can find a house or townhouse rental (for that you might check the local papers or contact a realty company)

And thanks for the heads up on the school districts. I've seen a few houses in the Indian Land schools, and wasn't quite sure how that worked. I would definitely like to stay with the Fort Mill schools, I've heard nothing but great things about the schools there! And yes, I found the "Waterstone houses", that's exactly what we want! Now if we could just sell our house here, we could start our adventure to the East Coast! Do you know of any websites with good pic's of the town and area? I'm having a hard time really finding any. I have to say, this is by far the scariest thing I've ever done, relocating from one coast to the other. If it was just my husband and I, I'd say "no big deal", but I've got a 13 yr.old who's complaining like mad with just the talk of moving away. (My 10 yr old's jumping for joy!) The guilt of being a parent! But I've read so many of you here that are doing just this for one reason or another, so I know we aren't completely crazy! Thanks again for the info.
My 15 yr is complaining too and the 13 and 11 yr are fine. Funny.

Hey there PaulyD...in regard to new homes I am sure there are several more that I am not aware of but the few that come to mind our: Beckenham - Eppington South - and Lynnwood Farms. The first 2 are more higher end homes...and I am not sure about the 1st one but the last 2 are on property that is at least an acre or more. Since there's alot of new homes going up...I would highly recommend contacting a realtor in the area.
