Re: Winters in Fort Mill compared to up North
I moved to York county, near Fort Mill about 2 years ago from Wisconsin. In the winter, you get barely an inch of snow. When that happens, or if there is ice (which is more like frost to me, and ice to them), everything store and every school shuts down. I would not travel the roads simply because no one down here knows how to drive in snowy or icy weather. The lowest the temperature has ever been here was near 20 degrees. I personally prefer at least a foot of snow, and people who know how to drive in it.
The spring seems to come a couple weeks early, the falls come a couple months late as well. First there is green leaves, the next day they turn colors, and then they all fall off. This happens around late October, early November.
As for the summers...hot, though not as humid as up north. The highest temperature was probably 106, and that was in mid-summer.
You do have to watch out for tornadoes in this time of year. The few that pass through York county, pass through and around the Fort Mill-Rock Hill area. I suggest getting a house with a basement; basements are scarce around here. Other than that, you picked a good area to live. Plenty of easily accessible shopping areas and nice houses. Good luck on your move!
