Default Privacy Fences?

I realize this is pretty general, but all of the pictures I have seen of property in the Ft. Mill area either have no fence or a split-rail type fence. Do most HOAs restrict the type of fence? I have 2 large dogs that would go right through those split-rail type fences. I currently have a 6 ft. fence around my back yard, to keep the damage confined to my own property.

Yes, most HOA's have regulations for types of fences that can be used.

Yes there are always HOA guidelines but they vary tremendously from neighborhood to neighborhood. For example in my neighborhood we can't use wood at all. We can put up vinyl privacy fences, various forms of picket fences, and the black metal fences but no split rail.

If you look closely at most of those split rail fences you will see a fine wire mesh fence stapled to the inside to confine the animals. The combination of a wood fence and the wire mesh is very common in this area and fits within most HOA restrictions.

Not all places in Fort Mill are subdivisions with HOA's You can still find older homes (if you are open to that) that are not within a subdivision (course most of the newer homes do have HOA's).

Also...while Tega Cay does not have HOA's (unless you are located in a townhome) we still have certain guidelines we are to follow in regards to fences.

Alot of folks in the area use invisible fences for their pets (which there are pros and cons to these as well).

Thanks to everyone for the info! I had not realized some of the fences had wire on the inside. I am visiting at the end of May and will check it all out, including the older homes (which I actually prefer). My problem is that my son and his family will be moving later and we hope to live near each other, so maybe a new house might be easier.
