We have been to the Fort Mill/Indian Land/Matthews area a few times. We are leaning towards SC because of the tax benefits. Does anyone know of any newer subdivisions that are building on bigger than 1/4 acre lots? We are coming from 10 acres, and although we dont want that much, at least a half acre lot would be nice. We're looking for wooded lots with some privacy and really are having a hard time with 10 and 15ft set backs that are so popular in this area. Our price range is up to 500k. Anyone?
Linda117, about 10 years ago you'd likely have been able to find homes on 1/2 acre lots for $500K, but those days are long gone unless you are willing to go out to Clover, SC where that price range may work.
A quick search landed two houses currently for sale in that price range with half an acre:
I think you'll just need to press upon your real estate agent what your must haves are, and be patient to wait for that type of home to come on the market. Consider renting an apartment month-to-month and putting your stuff in storage until you find the right house.
Wow, im pretty shocked. I thought things were a bit less expensive moving south. The prices seem higher than my area of NY. I just sold my home with almost 10 acres for a little less than 500k and it was in mint condition. We might have to rethink our wish list. Maybe we will have to compromise on the size of the lot and hope to find something where the builders arent tearing down all the trees.
You may be able to get something in Indian land. Fort mill is a no, unless you want to pay 800+K, maybe 5-10 years ago it could have been in your price range, but now it’s too popular here (supply vs demand)
OP, you are picking the fastest growing Charlotte suburb to move to. It is no longer considered a "cheap" alternative although it is certainly still cheaper than some areas of Charlotte and the surrounding metro area.
There are plenty of older, well-maintained neighborhoods where you'll get a lot of bang for your buck. A realtor will help you.
An older well-maintained neighborhood you may want to consider is in the area of Winthrop University or Country Club Estates on the South side of Rock Hill.
If you're willing to custom build you may be able to find a lot in Rock Hill
