Default Historic East Town Neighborhood - Rock Hill

Does anyone have information regarding the redevelopment of this area? I would really love to purchase one of these older homes, but am leary of what will become of the neighborhood.

The area that is close to downtown is not bad. Main St, White St, Confederate Ave, Reid St. have some beautiful old homes. A former TV weatherman and his wife bought one of the homes on Main St in the district and opened a B&B.

I was born in St. Phillips Hospital which at the time was located on the corner of N. Confederate Avenue and Pickens St. The hospital was operated by The Franciscan Sisters of Peoria and due to lack of funding had to close up in the late 1950s. A little funny here ... at one time the hospital was on one corner and their surgery room was across the street ... one had to be pushed on a gurney to surgery through the front yard and across the street with nuns stopping any traffic and one just prayed for no rain!

I would be a little leary of the Marshall St, Workman St and those areas further from the downtown area.

They have a website which I am sure you have visited: Historic East Town

You probably could attend one of their meetings which are normally held at Park Baptist Church on Main St. to get more info.

Hi pdx! You have received great info and good advice from carolinawoman. IMO East Town/Old Town definitely merits consideration when going the historic home/in-town route in RH. I recommend that anyone interested in historic ET contact Mr. John Misskelley. His info appears on the contact page of the website that CW referred to above.

We pass through East Town all the time on our way into town. Love the area. I've had the extreme pleasure of meeting Mr. Misskelley and other ET residents and they are a very cool bunch with strong ties to RH, York County, Winthrop, etc. A second annual East Town tour of homes will be held during Christmasville 2008.

For what it's worth... as you know, everyone loves showing off their favorite parts of their town to out-of-towners. Here in RH an East Town tour always appears on the agenda when we have guests and I know others do same.
