Who was your builder?

If you went to the LLR you would know who the licensed builder was. I am not sure who this is but I am Russell Smith and will be glad to talk to you about your home. I was the owner of Superior and should be able to shed some light on the story from both sides. I hope I can help clear this matter up.

This is Russell and my cell number is 803-242-0332 and I will be glad to help you if I can. Was your roof leaking in the first 12 months after you moved in, this is the warranty period for the builder and from the 13th month through the 120th month the warranty is only structural. i can pull your file and find out who roofed your house a contractor or the manufacture or both and hopefully we can get this resolved. Also have you filed a claim with the RWC warranty company. I need to now who you are and when was your house built. Please contact me or reply on this forum.

You must be pretty informed to make those accusations publically.

This is Russell and I am trying to figure out how I closed my company and had to let all of my employess go and they go get a job with another builder, how is that opening up another bussiness under a different name. To start of with, my brother Daryl Smith worked for Superior and had no ownership in the company, so how in the hell did he go bankrupt? He went unemployeed, that is usually what happens when a company closes, all of the employees lose their jobs. This is a real tough one to follow I am sure but try calling David Cline the Owner of Cline Homes, he has been in bussiness for many years and has 3 locations. He will probably take offense to you telling the whole world that Daryl Smith his employee owns his company and opened up under a new name. He actually opened up in Rock Hill because after Superior closed it left a wide open market with a need for a Modular Sales Center. That is the actually truth and by the way since you know so much about me and my brother you probably already know that Daryl is leaving the Cline Homes after December 31st and changing jobs into another industry. Maybe he is secretly opening up that company too, the only problem with that idea is that it has been open about 15 years. I guess you do not know as much as you think. Again I welcome you to call me at 803-242-0332 and we can talk or come and see me at KLR Custom Homes that new company that I opened up after I closed Superior. I am still trying to figure out how KLR opened in 2006 and Superior didn't close until March 2008 and you say that I opened up under a different name. Usually people open up under a different name shortly after they close not a year and a half before. Just take a few minutes to think about that before you reply. And I would love for you to find a public bankrupcy case number for Superior since I did not file Bankruptcy. By the way Bankruptcy is public information so I can not hide it if I actually filed. You are right about one thing Superior is closed after 8 years of being in bussiness and no one has to worry about all of your warnings since Superior is closed. I am just wondering out of over 400 customers how many feel like you, I would guess less than 10 percent if my math is correct. Let's see 400 times 10 % equals 40. In the Modular indusrty 90 % is pretty good. I truely wish it were 100%, if I could change anything about Superior it would have been that we would have been much smaller and only built between 18-24 homes per year so I could have a better handle on the operations and maybe then my customer satisfaction would have been higher. I know that my reply may seem like I am being a Smart ***, but I am only trying to give the correct information about my self and my family. In no way shape or form am I trying to make light of your problems with your home or make light of anything that myself or my company failed to make right for your family. I take my job very seriously and I will do anything that I can to help resolve your problems if I can. I am proud of all of the satisfied customers that I have sold over the past 8 years and I am truely sorry and ashamed of all that I have let down and did not satisfy. And I am not pleased with the 10% of unsatisified customer or how ever many there were. The only thing that I can do is try to help as many of the customers that I possible can and try not to make the same mistakes in the future. I keep all of my contact information in order to keep the lines of communication open long after Superior is gone. Please us this opportunity to hopefully resolve your issues with me and my previous company so we can both move on in a positive manner.

Tell the truth
You still have most of the same people working for you and some of the same sorry contractors. Go look at your own website. As for you making my home right, if you were sincere you would have done it to start with. Why now? I would not let you or you hired help back in my house. I would rather bear the cost myself than take that chance. What a mess!

My comment ("According to a response e-mail I received today from Mr. Russell Smith, Superior no longer builds modular homes as of March 2008; now apparently they only build stick-built homes.") was incorrect; I should have said "Now the previous owner only builds stick-built homes." I did not mean to infer that Superior was still in business.
It seems that you are still trying to serve your customers, even those who are dissatisfied. That says a lot about your character to me. For you to come on a public board and still try to explain things to folks who are obviously unhappy about something is a mark of a person who is honest. You have given your address and phone number and have offered to try to make things right.
There is no guide--at least as far as I know--as to how to shut down a business such that everyone goes away happy. The economy has been in the toilet now for quite a while.
I am one of those people who are looking to build a modular home because of the savings in cost. My husband and I want to retire. Though we have land, we need a home that is affordable; unfortunately, most stick-built homes, at least for us, don't fit that bill for the square footage we want.
Again, I would like to say, I hope everyone on this website will give Russell the benefit of the doubt. It is easy to come on a website and complain, but it takes a far better person to come on a website and actually offer to try to make things right for a dissatisfied customer.
Happy New Year, everyone!

I was wrong.
You are right, I am wrong. No matter what has happened everyone usually deserves a second chance. Hopefully Russell has learned from his mistakes, everyone should give him a chance. I apologize for being wrong and wish Russell only the best. Thanks for setting the correct example Bright Copper Kettles.
