Lancaster Indian Land schools
I was wondering about the Lancaster schools and Indian Land. The report card from SC was not very impressive and my wife was ready to eliminate the area due to the schools.
But several people on the message boards have mentioned how good these schools are. Can anyone tell me what makes them so good and why the ratings from the state seem to be so low? Thanks for the info.

The schools that rate very high are Fort Mill (ranked top 5% of the country). Indian Land uses a Fort Mill address so that could be where the confusion is coming from. Many realtors like to put Fort Mill in the listing, but you can tell when you see IL schools.

thanks but I believe people have said Indian Land is good and from their report cards it doesn't appear to be so. Gold Mill and Ft. Mill look very good but I heard there is a freeze on Gold Mill and many of those kids will go to Riverview, which doesn't appear to be impressive either.
We don't want to move here and have that happen or have our child change schools after the first year. It's enough that she'll be moving already. She's starting kindergarten in the fall.

The freezes will be removed soon...I am not sure when, but we just voted to build new schools by a 4-1 margin.

It's Gold Hill, not Mill.
What's not impressive about Riverview? Greatschools.net has the Fort Mill Elementary Schools ranked pretty closely (8-10 range for the Greatschools rating and high parental approval).

Here is the SC report card. They received 'good' ratings and below average in improvement. They aren't as bad as I first remembered but the other county schools have better numbers.
https://ed.sc.gov/topics/researchand...y/e4604042.pdf
I'm not sure how accurate the greatschools.net ratings are. It seems there are 4-6 ratings for most schools and I don't know if that gives one an accurate look at the school.
My wife went to Catholic school and has an inherent dislike of public schools so anything less than 'school of excellence' makes her nervous LOL.
The reason I'm asking is that I like the looks of the Bridgemill subdivision but it's in Lancaster school zone and I like what I hear about the entire Ft. Mill area (we are still in FL but doing internet searches) but I don't want my child to have to make 2 moves in school.

As groove1 had said, if you're concerned about schools, then live in Fort Mill. Indian Land is improving but it is not yet at the level of Fort Mill. There are many homes in Fort Mill that are comparable to those in Bridgemill. You may want to look at Eppington South (start at $800K) or Springfield (don't know their price points).

Love Bridgemill, great sqft for the $$$$$$!!! BUT you would be in the Indian Land school district... We live in Baxter and your money does not go as far over here... We have been here about 2 years and love it but we wish we had a larger house and lot... Example for about 2200 sqft in Baxter would be the same price as over 3300 sqft in Bridgemill....The bond package that was voted in should relieve some of the pressure on the schools in the 2009 school year. All of the schools in FM get great marks...
Good Luck...

We Like Indian Land Schools!
We moved to Bridgemill in IL from South Charlotte in 2007. We were in one of the top 5 elementary schools in Char-Meck. We will say that we are getting and equal education to our school in Charlotte, and when it come to discipline and security IL is superior. The Children wear uniforms and that help with the discipline aspect.
We are not some county rednecks. I have an MBA from one of the top programs in the southeast and my wife has a BA from one of the top state univ in the South. We place a great importance in education!
The school district still has some blue collar/county families. The children bring down the test scores. What I can tell you that the 3-4 years I've been looking at the test scores they have been rapidly increasing, and as these country folks become more of a minority the score will continue to improve.
Don't let the schools keep you from your move.

Wow - when did being from a blue collar family or a more rural part of the county become a negative?
