Hi--
I am moving from Houston to Baxter next week, and am looking for a good pediatrician for my 5-year-old twin boys. They were preemies and one of them has had a few developmental issues and has needed Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy, as well as leg braces for toe-walking. The boys will be starting kindergarten in the fall, and the one who has needed the therapies has shown a few signs of having add/adhd (according to his therapists), although he has done very well in a structured preschool program. I am looking for a pediatrician who has a solid knowledge of developmental delays and birth issues, and who also views medication as a "last resort" for add/adhd. (As a former teacher, I am very aware that some kids can benefit from medication, but I also saw enough to know that some pediatricians are very quick to write the prescription. I just want to make sure that whoever I take my boys to will consider all possible options and interventions first.) Also, I would like to choose a doctor who will listen and not rush through office visits, and who will interact well with two lively, active little boys!
Thank you so much for any suggestions. This is our second move in less than a year and a half, and any help will be greatly appreciated!
