Tega Cay-Is there a catch?
Hello! We have fallen in love with Tega Cay!!! We were going to rent the first year, but decided we loved it so much we would go ahead and buy! We actually put a contract on a home today!!! When we tell or families and friends about how great the area is, how many parks there are, the golf course, pool, trees, lake, friendly people, safety and so on...they just can't believe it and ask what the catch is. After thinking about it...I can't seem to find anything "wrong" with the Tega Cay Picture. Am I missing something or have we found paradise?

No catch. TC is a great place to live. I have several friends who live there. People from the North seem to really love it. The only thing I have ever heard anyone say is that water tends to be more expensive there as opposed to other places in York County. Tell your friends to move on in!

Lots of homes for sale in the area, curious which area did you choose? We live in Windsong Bay area of Tega Cay.

No catch! This is great news! Thanks to all who responded. We just purchased in the older section on Tara Tea Drive. We should be moving in by mid July. Any tips you could pass on would be greatly appreciated.
See you soon!

Tega Cay was at the top of my relocation towns for our move.
But, I really haven't found any homes to purchase in our price range which tops out at $180,000. There's just the two of us and we're retired so buying a large home is simply out of the question. I don't want to spend all my time on housework and lawn work! I want to enjoy my retirement.
If anyone knows of any area that is within that price range, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I moved around the corner from Tega Cay, still in Charlotte somedays I wish we had driven around the corner.
Love having the new wal-amrt so close so many stores in a short distance.
Sounds to me like you made a great choice.

Hey there southfloridian,
We have lived in Tega Cay for 4 1/2 years now and still love it as much as the first time we saw it.
Yet what I am about to write..is something I have debated back and forth on whether I should bring up or not...I have finally decided to bite the bullet and pass this on....
...you made mention that there is a home you just purchased on Tara Tea Dr....I know there are several for sale on Tara Tea right now...but there is a poster on this site that goes by nstantamaria ( http://www.city-data.com/forum/membe...ria-94232.html) who was also interested in buying a home on Tara Tea. Turns out...they were NOT thrilled on how the inspection report came back on the house. Hopefully you are looking at a different home and this is all for not. But just in case...you might want to contact this poster and find out for yourself.
Again I hope what I have written above is all for not and your move to Tega Cay is a happy one...may I also wish you an early welcome to TC!
p.s. I would also strongly suggest that everyone have a home inspection prior to purchasing a home...whether it be New or Old.

Thanks for looking out for me! Actually just read her posting and it is a different house. I will also send her a DM just to check in to see how things went. We had our inspection and passed with no problems. My brother in law is a contractor, so he also gave it a once over! Yes, all you prospective buyers, please order and inspection!

Some people would say the catch is Duke's nuke plant on lake Wylie.
