SC Bound is on a distinguished road
Cool How do you sell house in one state and buy in another??

I'm a homeowner in Pennsylavani. My family consists of my sister, myself and my nephew. We have our house up for sale so we can move to Fort Mill. Now what I don't know how to do is: I can't buy a house in SC until I sell the house in PA, because I need the money from one to put down on the other. Yep, that's right I'm not a millionaire with a few hundred thousand just laying around...lol So, how do you do it?

I can get pre-qualified for a mortgage but the mortgage company I have now tells me if your relocating, then you have to have a job in the new state, and present a pay stub from the new job at the closing on the house in SC.

SO, the only way to relocate is if I put my stuff in storage, rent temporay housing, get a job, THEN find a house and get a mortgage? Is that the only way to go????

How have you people who've relocated done it????:

PA Family is on a distinguished road
We moved from PA , we waited till my husband got a job here before putting our house in PA on the market. The house was on the market for about 2 months so during that time my husband commuted back to PA on the wkends. We had already decided to buy in Tega Cay and we had already done househunting trips to get familiar with the area, so once our house was sold we were able to put an offer in quickly. We closed on our Philly home on a Sat. and closed in Tega Cay the following Friday.

I don't think I would recommend moving without a job unless you have the funds to pay your mortgage without an income for several months at the least, but just my opinion- good luck!

After you get an offer that you accept on your house, you make an offer conditional on getting financing and on selling your house. These types of offers used to be quite common, although I'm not sure how many sellers would take a conditional offer today. On the other hand, if they are getting desperate, they might be willing to wait until you sold your house. Of course, this was all a lot easier in "the old days."

I am going to wait until I have an offer on my house before I make an offer on a new one. I am retired, so the job issue doesn't apply.
