Is she looking for independent living?, assisted living?, does she want something that includes meals?, is she open to places that are marketed for seniors but not age restricted?, does it have to be a retirement community?.
If you want to send me a DM...I'll share with you want I know.
Take care,

Thanks. She's looking for a rental. She wants to be around people her age. She's retired on a fixed income and could not afford more than 700 for rent. Hope this answer's your question enough to help me.
Thanks

you know there are some others around in York County, SC (for example in Lake Wylie, Rock Hill, etc.) but the best place I could find (keeping monies in mind...which probably explains why they usually have a waiting list) was The Dorchester in Pineville, NC (it's in close proximity to Indian Land, SC). Yet, when I took my parents there....they apparently didn't see themselves as being old enough?
Active Senior Living in Charlotte, North Carolina at The Cottages
I even went looking as far as Gastonia, NC (the one I saw had a restricted income level...which my parents income was just a hair over the max.).
I could provide you with a list of others...but you are going to have trouble finding places just for seniors within that price range (heck I went by a place about a month ago that's being built in Matthews...and a 2br will be going for over $3,000 a month...course this price includes meals/maid but still??? ).
You might also find someone willing to rent in Del Webb/Indian Land, SC or Four Seasons in Fort Mill...but again it may be more than she wants to pay.
Now...if she is willing to look at apartments that are not just for seniors...I have a few other suggestions. I also have some links for seniors (for Charlotte). If interested..feel free to send me a DM.

I spoke to my mom today and told her to call about the Dorchester in Pineville. You say their's a waiting list? She can't believe there is not affordable senior living apartments in Fort Mill. She wants to be close to us. I told her Pineville was not that far away. Any links you can send me would be most appreciative. I have to look for a place my self short term; about 3 months until my house is finished.
Thanks

In regard to the Dorchester (Pineville, NC) I had mentioned above that there is usually a waiting list (not sure about the current situation?). While I don't mean this to sound snippy...but if your Mom can find something cheaper in regard to Senior housing in Fort Mill....I am ALL ears. (and that includes Fort Mill, Charlotte, Rock Hill, Lake Wylie, etc....course I am keeping safety in mind as well). Does your Mom realize that Fort Mill is not all that big?...heck we don't even have that many regular apartments (much less apartments geared for seniors only)
If I am not mistaken I believe I read somewhere that you will be moving to Indian Land (Lancaster County) if that is true you might also want to show your Mom on mapquest how close The Dorchester (Pineville) is to Indian Land. In fact if you were to leave The Dorchester and continue down Dorman Rd for a mile (or maybe a little less) you cross into Indian Land (Lancaster County).
While it's starting to sound like I own stock in Dorchester...I don't heck who knows she might not even like it...but the location is pretty good (close proximity to Carolina Place Mall and other shopping, restaurants, hospital, etc.) and it's in her price range
Not sure how many of these links will be of any help to you (maybe not at all?) yet they also cover both Charlotte, NC and York Cnty, SC areas)

Thanks I am going to check out the Dorchester soon. This sounds like her best bet. You're right; it's very close to where I would be in Fort Mill. I am having a house built in Belair at Carolina Lakes and have to also find an apartment for about 3 months. I'll let you know how we make out.
Thanks for all your help.
