What does everyone think of Massey?
We are looking at building there some time in the near future but I thought I'd ask what the general opinion is. We have one 5 year old daughter and are relocating from MN. Hubby is already there in a town house that we are renting. We have a rent to own deal being drawn up on our house here so we'll be one of those non contingent buyers! yay!!!
Anyway, I like the amenities at Massey and that there is going to be a new elementary school built right there. My biggest concern is living next to weed lots while the area builds up.
Thanks

My thought was it has a similar feel like Berewick with manor home and future shopping center. I felt it was a little pricey to be pretty far out there. It is about a 15 min journey to Baxter and about 20 min journey to Ballantyne when I viewed it on a weekend. I couldn't imagine what it might be with rush hour traffic. You either have to go through the middle of Fort Mill or up Johnston Rd with all those developments. It was the reason why we decided to look elsewhere. I think with time the area will grow to have more to do around it.

We've looked at Massey numerous times. Same developer as Millbridge in Waxhaw and Edenmoor in Indian Land. Some of the same builders, also. The developer has done Cureton and Quellin in Union Cty. Great amenities and a new elementary school scheduled is opening in 2011 right next to Massey. Yes, a bit pricey for the location. In talking with the homebuilders, it appears GS Carolina(developer), paid much more for the land than the other neighborhoods I've listed above. Thus, the prices are higher, over 20K for the same Ryland house they are building in both Massey and Millbridge. One plus, depending on where you work, is the future Fort Mill bypass from I77 to Whites Rd., which is right up the street from Massey, connecting to Dolby Bridge Rd. This will make easy access to I77 just south of Fort Mill. Good Fort Mill schools. Hope this helps.

The Southern bypass is to basically go from I-77 and loop around Fort Mill connecting to the Northern Bypass to Gold Hill Rd to I-77. It will not end at Dobys Bridge Rd.
I-77 will be a little less than 4 miles from Dobys Bridge Road. You need to remember the farther from the interstate you are the farther you are from petty crime and I appreciate the buffer.
I have yet to see an updated timeline for the Southern Bypass and I am not counting on the Elementary School though this would be nice to have. I wouldn't consider the Elementary School a done deal until Fort Mill actually takes possession of the land.
Carolina Place Mall, Ballantyne, and Blakeney are no more than 20 minutes away (15 min off hours) with Cornerstone (under construction) about 10 I would think. I have heard that sales at Massey are sssslllooooowwwww and even if they weren't they have to wait for the bypass to be built as this is holding up thousands of building permits in the area. I think Massey will be the next Baxter in 5-7 years.
With a 5 year old I would be looking for a resell at Lake shore (Area 15 in Tega Cay) rather than Massey. Prices there have come back to reality. With no kids and none on the way for a little while I would look at Massey a little harder. Happy Hunting.

We went over there last weekend to see what types of homes were going up. I was SO glad we had moved to Bridgemill. Massey was just clear cut with red clay for miles and miles. Not somewhere we would have selected

Carolina-Trader: Thank you for clarification with the Southern Bypass. What exit from I77 South would you take? I currently take the Gold Hill exit to what I think is the Northern Bypass and pick of 160 by Fort Mill Elementary/Middle Schools. Further, do you what the rezoning is for across from Springfield and Nation Fords High School? I noticed rezoning signs. Also, the large parcel of land across from Fort Mill Elementary/Middle also has rezoning signs, probably almost a 1/2 mile stretch. Thanks.

The land up for rezonning along the northern bypass is all part of the Springs Close greenway. The Greenway and a lot of other land around town that is currently owned by Leroy Springs Co. and Clear Springs development is being annexed into the city.
As for the Southern Bypass exit, the bypass will tie into Hwy 21 and then to Sutton Rd and 77.

Massey backs up to the neighborhood that I've lived in since 1968. I used to hike, bike and built many a fort on the land that is now Massey (or "Massive" as some of the locals call it). It used to be lots of gullies, which is why there are no trees to speak of in the main part of the development. They had to fill in all of the gulleys and cut back the hills to get it level enough to build on. I'm just hoping that they properly packed all of the soil that they brought in and moved around so it won't be settling later on and causing foundation problems for the home owners.
We used to be waaaaay outside the Fort Mill city limit. Now it is almost a stone's throw away from my house since Fort Mill annexed Massey.

We drive past Massey every week going to various activities. My kids ALWAYS comment on the destruction of the beautiful forests and I get to listen to another "Trees are our Friends" lecture from my 8 yr old. I'm sure in 10 years it might look nice but right now it is SUCH an eyesore.
