Why no liquor or beer/wine sales on Sundays in Lancaster county? How to change that?
I know this is probably just some old blue law but I think it needs to change to bring the county into the 21st century. How can they expect big chain restaurants to want to come here if they can't serve alchoholic drinks on a sunday and attract the football and race car fans? Especially along 521 with all the new plazas going in.
What would it take to change the law? Anybody know how that process would work to at least get it on the ballot?

York County has the same law. T-Bonz on Lake Wylie started a petition to try to get the law changed, but I don't think it ever worked. I'm not sure how you would go about removing it, but I think a good place to start would be a petition. Perhaps you could call T-Bonz and find out what they did.

Not all of York County has the same law anymore. Restaurants in Rock Hill can serve alcohol on Sunday. Pretty much the only town you can't buy alcohol in York County on Sunday is Fort Mill.

Well then perhaps I should have said that they used to have the same law. I know that T-Bonz tried very hard to get it overturned, do you know if they are still under the restrictions? They are in the town of Lake Wylie if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know...I know the restaurant owners in Rock Hill got the city or county to change it through petitions. The owner Of Towne Tavern of Fort Mill is still trying to get York County to change it through petitions too but I don't know where it stands. Give him a call or stop in the place and maybe he could tell you about what he has encountered with York. His name is Danny and he and/or his wife are in the place a lot and are easily accesible and friendly.

oh darlin...you are not the first one to bring this subject up in the Carolinas (just do a search on this site). Many have gone before you....some have had a bit of success....many others have not.
While you may think that having beer, or wine sales on Sundays brings us into the 21st century...there are many here that do not agree with you.
Now if you are located in Indian Land, SC (Lancaster County) you have a similar situation as many folks have here in York County...that live in close proximity to the NC stateline...you can just drive across into Charlotte, NC. And this has been one of the biggest complaints from restaurant owners in the Fort Mill/Lake Wylie area....as they see potential dollars leaving SC on Sundays and being spent in NC.
But do not despair as I can tell you that in the 4 1/2 years that we have been here...I have seen quite a few changes. One example is...in the past if you went to a dining establishment, or bar and ordered a mixed drink....it could only be made from the tiny little liquor bottles that they serve on airplanes (now we have free-pour). And while this next example doesn't really have to do with liquor (but was/is part of the blue law) was stores (grocery stores were excluded) could not open until 1:30pm on Sundays. The first time I entered the WalMart in Rock Hill on a Sunday (before 1:30) I could not figure out what was going on....as there was caution tape wrapped around the whole store...except the grocery items which were fine to purchase...yet nothing else could be bought until after 1:30pm (Rock Hill has since changed this).
Personally I think that Lancaster County, SC will take a little more time to come around...as not all that long ago they put to vote dropping the blue law on Sunday shopping over the Christmas holidays...and while it passed...it sure didn't pass by much.

Tega Cay, SC can serve alcohol on Sundays (since 1982)...but prior to Stonecrest being built the only place you could purchase a drink was at the Tega Cay (Golf) Clubhouse restaurant. Now with Stonecrest being within Tega Cay...the big discusion was/is if they should allow alcoholic drinks to be served on Sundays (so just envision...on one side of the street it is okay...on the opposite side of the street it is not) What appears to be on its way for approval though...is only off-premises consumption?

What is really stupid is that you CAN buy beer at a restaurant in York County on Sunday but not in a store...seems this would encourage more people drinking and then driving.
