Default Big House Fire on Lake Wylie

I was at Ebenezer Park on Sun when the weather turned bad. There was a huge bolt of lightning then thunder across the lake. A few minutes later we saw smoke, alot of it coming from the homes on the hill across Lake Wylie from Ebenezer state park. A few minutes later there were giant plumes of thick, black smoke and huge fireballs coming from what I assume was a house that was on fire from the lightning strike. It was very surreal.

Does anyone know what house or neighborhood it was? Did everyone get out ok? I have not seen anything on any of the local news sires about it.

It was the house once owned by infamous former Hornets owner, George Shinn.

Read about the fire here:

It was where the alleged (attempted?) rape by Shinn occurred. Don't know all the details; it was before my time.

Well, just for a bit of clarification....the current owners of the home (have absolutely nothing to do with George Shinn) and are relatively new to the area.

Luckily no one was home at the time the lightning struck their house (as the family was on vacation). Folks in the area have/had been looking to help out the family in any immediate needs they may have (the family basically had the clothes they left with on vacation)...so the local PTA sent out an email to us on Sunday with information on where donations are being accepted.

Purchased in 2006 for $1.2 million, 3 story on what must be one of the nicest lots in all of Tega Cay, a shame indeed.

We know the current owners and they were out of town. My wife plays tennis with her and called after seeing it on the news. They have been gathering gift cards, etc
