Doesn't seem like many homes for sale in Fort Mill expecially in my price range of 150-160k. Why is this other than the schools are good? Any other area there seems to be plenty to choose from like Columbia area. Is this a better place to buy then Columbia area? I need 3 beds, 2 baths and good schools near nursing home(s) and hospital for my wifes job (RN). Any other areas to check out that may work? So far I have considered Irmo, Lexington, and FM which isnt looking to good (because inventory seems very low).

Well, one reason you won't find as many homes in that price range is due to the fact that Fort Mill, SC is not as large as Columbia, SC. The other reason is due to Fort Mill's close proximity to Charlotte, NC (making it a short commute for work, along with lower taxes and home prices than most of the Charlotte area), add to that the excellent reputation of the Fort Mill schools and you now have what has made this area very desirable for many. You can find home prices in that range but I will admit it is getting harder and harder to do so in the Fort Mill area. Also the winter months always seem to be a little slower for listings. Another area I might suggest to you..would be Clover, SC (Lake Wylie, SC)...this area also has very good schools but your money seems to go a little farther there right now. Best of luck to you! settlepa - I believe Larlan13 is building a home in that development that he mentioned in his post.
As for homes in Fort Mill, you can find homes in that price range, but they will be smaller, older homes. The one pro is that sometimes those old, smaller homes have more LAND, which can be a plus in the long run, IMO. The homes in that price range might also need a little bit of TLC to bring it up to snuff (read: dated kitchen/baths, old carpeting, etc.). I agree that inventory will pick up over the next few months as people get their houses on the market in order to move before the following school year begins. DEFINITELY think about Clover - it's not too far from Fort Mill, also has great schools and seems to be a bit cheaper, as lovethecarolinas said. |
