Hi Bound4NC! We stayed at the "Comfort Inn at Carowinds" in Fort Mill when we moved to Tega Cay in March. We were there for a week while we waited for our furniture to arrive. The hotel is actually right across the street from Carowinds, and we stayed there before Carowinds opened for the season. The staff was friendly, & we felt we were in a safe neighborhood. Our room was great for our needs, which were sleeping (we were EXHAUSTED!!), and as a "home base" while we waited for furniture & cars & cats to arrive at our new home!!

I love Tega Cay!! We looked in numerous cities at Lake Norman, and other places on Lake Wylie, but liked the "feel" of Tega Cay the best. Just a friendlier and more laid back feel, and the right fit for us.

as our weather around here heats up...so apparently has the crime in this area (it is freeway close?). When we first moved to SC 2 1/2 years ago my husband stayed at the hotel Vicki suggested above and did not have any problems (more than likely I am also the same one that suggested it to Vicki ). So while I am very happy my husband and Vicki had a good experience there...just not sure (now that Carowinds is open) now would be the right time to stay there. You might also take a look at the site of the local news channel WSOCTV (do a search: crime carowinds area). In addition my husband works in the industrial park right behind this area and had his vechicle broken into a couple of weeks ago (it was the sheriff that wrote the report that informed us of the increased activity during summer).

Bound...if you are just going to be looking at the Fort Mill area I would suggest a hotel in Rock Hill, SC (off Dave Lyle Blvd) but I believe you are looking in Waxhaw too (is that correct?)...if this is the case (if I were you) I would try and stay somewhere in between the two (if this is true...just let me know and I will try and help you).

The city of Tega Cay is a peninsula off of Lake Wylie...so we are surrounded by water (with various parks throughout with lake access)

My suggestion (not knowing your price range) would be to stay in South Charlotte (Ballantyne area). I think it would be a good base point for you , it is a very safe area, and there is several really good places to eat around there.

There are 3 over there...the most expensive is the Ballantyne Resort (if you need pampering and can afford it...I'm still waiting for my day), the other two would be Staybridge Suites, and the Courtyard by Marriot (the last two are both on John J. Delaney Drive, off of 521)

Can you PM me the phone numbers if you have a local phone book?
