I know my father, who has been a shooter since I was a young child, has recently become involved with Sportsman Inc. He loves it and you can find him there on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings Here's a link to their website. I do not see classes listed though...

I looked at York Tech and they offer classes too: Gun Safety

My husband I am both shoot at Sportman's. I was just asking them if it is busy there on a weekend and the girl at the cash register said it really is busy on the Saturdays that they have the classes. So... this should mean they give the classes there.

I have never shot until we moved down here and find the place just fine. The good part about taking the class there is that the range is right there. I know that last year we spoke to a guy on the border of NC/SC and he taught both but the range was a mile from the class.

Hope this helps!

I just took the class at the Sportsman on Saturday...It was good. I had to wait over 3 months for an opening in the class (there's a waiting list). It was $75 and then the permit application is $50. They supplied all the paperwork and did your fingerprinting. The website for the people that run the CCWP class is DES Training They were NRA Instructors and kept the class entertaining. You need to qualify with at least an 85% on the range.

Thanks everybody. I *theoretically* am in the October 26th class through York Tech. Called today to sign up and their computers were down, so the woman took my info, but I never got a confirmation. She did say that as of Friday they still had room. DES does their classes as well and the price was the same as through DES directly, so I just signed up for that. The first opening directly with DES wasn't until November, and since I think it takes 4-6 weeks to actually get the permit after you apply with the state, I didn't want wait too long.

So, BRKLYN2CLT, in other words, I better get to the range several times and practice, huh? My unit is ordered (I tried several that this dealer already had) and should be in this week and the guy I'm getting it from is going to take me back out to the range to use my own and also teach me the basics and cleaning, but I better get more practice in. I'll need to check out Sportsman and see how much it costs to use their range. I will be able to go through the day in the week, so hopefully they won't be too busy.

Nichol's Store, Inc. in Rock Hill, also provides the CCW class and they are often, less crowded. You probably could get in the class sooner. I personally went through Sportmans and was very satisfied with them, but they do get booked fast. Good luck.
