Question Need Information on Lancaster, SC

We are looking to move from Ohio and have been trying to research different areas..one place we looked into was Lancaster..so the questions would be...
How far of a commute to Charolette, NC?
About how much could you rent a 3br house for in a decent area?
What are some decent areas?
Is this area more of a mixed race area? more whites? blacks?
School systems?

any other information would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks!

Hi I live in Lancaster. I'll try and answer your questions the best I can.

How far of a commute to Charlotte, NC?-That really would depend on where in Lancaster County you'd live. If your in Indian Land, not long at all. If your in Buford or the lower part of the county around 1 hour, that's during rush hour. Plus it would depend on where you were commuting to in Charlotte.

About how much could you rent a 3br house for in a decent area?
-I'm not really sure about renting a house. You can buy a 3 bedroom house for under $100,000 or you could easily spend up to $800,000. It depends on what you want and where.

What are some decent areas?
-Pretty much anywhere except the town of Lancaster. Buford is nice, Indian Land is nice, southern Lancaster, towards Heath Springs, is nice.

Is this area more of a mixed race area? more whites? blacks?
-It is a mixture of whites, blacks and hispanics. I would say the percentage of whites is higher. Buford is mostly all white, so is Indian Land. There isn't any type of racial tension or anything, everyone gets along.

School systems?
-There's only 1 school systerm, that's Lancaster County School District. There are 8 Elementary schools, 5 Middle schools and 4 High Schools. As far as the "best" elementary schools, I'd say Indian Land, North, McDonald Green and Buford. Best Middle School and High School is probably Andrew Jackson. Lancaster High is the largest with around 2000 students. Buford & Indian are the smallest, although both are growing rapidly.

If you have any other questions, just ask and I'll try to answer them for you.

We are moving from Ohio to either NC or SC as well. We have visited the city of Lancaster three times since May and have looked at several areas. There are several nice developments in the area to look but we are also concerned about the commute to Charlotte/southern Charlotte area.

Right now the commute from the town of Lancaster to south Charlotte is easy, probably 20-25 minutes--though that will increase as development increases in Indian Land. I believe the town of Lancaster is a wonderful choice for Charlotte workers who want to live in a small-town environment.
