We'll be there soon scouting properties.

Can anyone comment on where a nice hotel around Lake Wylie might be?

Thank you.

Well, we really don't have anything in close proximity to the lake. I usually suggest folks stay in the Ballantyne area (which is about a 15 to 20 minute drive depending on where around Lake Wylie you plan on looking). A couple of other areas to look for hotels would be in Rock Hill, SC, or Pineville, NC. There are a few mid-range hotels in Fort Mill but I am not a huge fan of these (right off interstate, across the street from the amusement park, next to NC stateline...there has been to much undesirable activity for my taste of late).

Here are a few suggestions:

Ballantyne Resort (Charlotte, NC)
Courtyard by Marriott(Charlotte - John J. Delaney Dr.)
Staybridge Suites (same as above)
Hampton Inn (Rock Hill, SC)

Best of luck with your search!

Question Yikes - Checking into the Holiday Inn this Friday!

Uh, Oh - my husband and I are flying in this weekend and staying at the Holiday Inn across from the Carowinds Park so we can be in close proximity to viewing homes in the area. Should I be concerned about staying here? We are not checking in until late evening and then the following week I am bringing back my young family to stay here for a few days as well.

What kind of activity are you referring to - is it a cause for safety concerns?
Please advise...thanks!

While I have known folks that have stayed in this area in the past and not had a bit of problem (including my husband..when we first moved here)...this area does not have the best reputation (and definetly not a good representaiton of what a great town Fort Mill truly is).

If you look up the Fort Mill Times (www.fortmilltimes.com) and do a search using Carowinds hotels/Carowinds hotel...there will be some past stories.

Also...one other heads up - March 24 will be the opening day to Carowinds...so expect the area to be crowded.

If you want to stay IN Lake Wylie contact Hamilton's bay. It is an apartment complex that also rents short term, one night if needed. All units are furnished, right down to cookware/silverware, washer/dryer, everything you need. New storage facility within a half mile.

I lived in Hamilton's Bay for 3 years after relocating from Cleveland. They are medium to upscale, workout center, pool, whirlpool. The Buster Boyd bridge is 2 miles north on route 49. All shopping is within 2 miles south on 49. Directly across the street is River Hills, gated community with PGA quality course, marina, radio staion, on site med center complete with two ambulances and defillibrator. They also have Camp Thunderbird, an excellent outdoor, lake based camp for children, they offer summer and after school programs. 2000 homes in there ranging from the low 100s to 1 million plus.

Clover school district, Crowders Creek Elementary and Middle school (@ 3 miles from Apts). Built @ 5-7 yrs old was ranked in top five nationally when we arrived, still the top performing school within a highly rated district. Charlotte Mecklemburg schools, err, left Cleveland to get away from a similar school system. They will let you come have lunch with your child every day if you wish, or call directly to classrom to speak with your child, but they are high tech when it comes to campus security.

As you cross the bridge there is a steakhouse to the right, T-Bones. Not bad but the best in "town" is the River Rat, about 3 miles straight down 49 on the left hand side, just past shopping area. More expensive than T-Bones, but worth every cent.

There is no local police, fire, or elected officials, we don't need those lol. A great place to visit or live, especially if you have children. Carowinds Amusement Park is within 10 miles, Charlotte within 15-20 minutes. Contact information for Hamilton's Bay and the local paper link is below:

Baker, Nancy - Hamilton's Bay Apartment Homes
24 Hamiltons Harbor Dr
Clover, SC 29710

There is another apt complex, they allow pets too not sure on short term stays though. It is called "the village of lake wylie". Little higher rent than the bay, security gate, little nicer, same amenities minus basketball/tennis court. Park at back of complex is on Lake Wylie, pavilion, grills, tables, accessible from either complex on foot.
