We are looking into getting a puppy for our family. We are definitely going to get a rescued dog. After searching through shelter websites around the region, I found a bunch of listings for Richardson Rescue. They have a ton of animals to choose from. Before we go ahead with them, I wanted to check in here and see if anyone had heard of them. They're out near Rock Hill.
Are they a secret puppy mill? Great family-run rescue? I just want to know the deal with them before we adopt a dog from them. We want to do the right thing when we get a dog. Thanks so much!

They are legitimate, and have had adoption drives sponsored by a number of local businesses. Good luck, and I hope you find a new friend there!

I adopted two puppies from them last May. They seem to be a family run rescue center. They are very freindly and take very good care of the animals. They do microchipping on site as well and they take every precaution possible to prevent parvo for the puppies.

Thanks so much, both of you, for your replies. We are so looking forward to finding a puppy, we just want to make sure it will come from a source that's on the up-and-up. It's hard to know about a place from afar (we're in Charlotte), especially without the established nature of someplace like the Humane Society. Thanks again!

Just wanted to also plug a great way to help our furry friends -- Humane Society of York County now has a thrift store that is open on the weekends! It's a great way to recycle your "stuff" or to buy more and help out the pets at the same time!

PAWSibilities, Humane Society of York County’s “second chance” shop is located just behind the Humane Society just off I 77 and Hwy 160.

From their newsletter:

“Tool Weekend” is March 27th and 28th. We will be bringing in tools from a warehouse. Please mark the date on your calendar and tell your friends about it. Also, if you have any tools that you would like to donate, please let us know. We are also going to be highlighting other items that men might enjoy.

And a rep to you for checking in the first place.

Best of luck finding a new companion.

Thanks again to everyone for their help! And Brendag, that's a great tip! We don't have anything left over from our last sweet dog, so we'll need to load up on supplies.
