We are looking at two communities one in Fort Mill, SC and one in Mooresville, NC. When we are in each town we love it. Does anyone have any suggestions about these two areas? We have checked all the stats, have spent time in both. Both have pros & cons. But nothing on our list is a deal breaker.
We need also really good schools. Great schools rates both schools a 10. We would be attending Springfield Middle & Nations Ford.
Please your insight from the people who are living in these areas have all the best information.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts.

I think the two things for you to consider are traffic and taxes. By most accounts, I'm a Charlottean... been here almost 30 years now.

Traffic is Mooresville is horrendous. Try driving it at times you think you would be driving. What might seem like a 5 minute trip to the store, may take 30 depending on where you are looking. Also, SC property taxes are considerably lower. Find a house you love in both areas, and compare the taxes and utilities of both properties. Most tax records can be found online. And you can ask the seller for copies of their most recent utility bills to get an idea.

Just at thought-

We looked around for a couple of years before deciding and buying in Fort Mill (Springfield). We liked the small town feel of the area, the lower taxes and it is convenient to Southpark, Ballantyne and Pineville. Every single person we spoke to just raved about the schools!

Unfortunately we couldn't sell our home in S. Florida so we are still down here but maybe one day we can call Fort Mill home!!

Don't forget that income taxes in SC are a bit lower than in NC. Gasoline is also less money in SC than NC. Those along with lower property taxes might help your decision.

I would lean towards Fort Mill. Traffic is better, schools are great! Truly Mooresville traffic is awful and if you're working in Charlotte you'll have the I-77 commute each day (not fun). Fort Mill to Charlotte is much easier on the psyche and it's a nice area convenient to south Charlotte.

We looked at both areas also, but chose Tega Cay. In addition to the points from others above, we felt that the Moorseville area was tapped out (e.g.- property values maxed) and the Fort Mill area had a lot more room to improve and grow.

I travel a lot for business and the easier/quicker trip to the airport from down here is a big plus for me.

Also - our SC flag is much cooler :-)

Is it OK to refer to the NC'ers as Northerners?
