Default Cheraw S.C.

We are thinking about moving to Cheraw, S.C. from Little Rock, AR. We are pretty scared about the move...ok scared to death to leave behind all we've known and friends/family even as few as they are, lol. We have a friend that I know through a dachshund forum whose brother owns the home next door on 1 acre and it's $300/mo and they don't care what we do as long as we don't burn, ransack, and demolish the place, lol. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about that area? Like how are jobs there, cost of living, what are the people like, etc etc. You know, anything that you'd want to know when moving out of state. We haven't made a decision as of yet, but also plan to go out there before we do decide. We really do want to start over and move away from the in-laws, but a few people would be devastated not to see our son (toddler) since my dad sees him everyday and my friend's mom (loves him like he's her grandson) sees him pretty often as well. I know that if they would go with us, it would be better, lol. But I doubt that will happen. Thanks.

Hi!

I live and work in Lancaster, SC, and I visit Cheraw quite often. It's pretty smallish town, and the cost of living is low, but the Job market may not be good due to it's size. However, it is located near florence, which is a larger city, and plenty of jobs there.

Good luck!

Cheraw is a nice small town with friendly residents and loads of history. The downtown area has several restaurants and a few specialty stores but there is a Wal Mart and related commercial on the Chesterfield Hwy. Cheraw is home to Northeastern technical college and Cheraw State Park. The unemployment rate is high and finding a job might be difficult depending on what type of work you will be doing. Florence is 45 minutes away so there would be more job opportunities.

I live here - I hate it! We moved here 4 1/2 yrs ago - There are NO JOBS! You will have to work in Florence, SC which is nice - Selling this house here to get to somewhere where there is something to do! Anything to do... Only walmart here, they call it super walmart but it is not open 24 hrs only til 11pm at night! So if you are bored easily plz consider carefully.

Feel free to ask anything you wish I can give you info about everything for churches, schools etc, daycares.... my sons are 5 and 10.

Selling our house if you decide to come.... cost of living is very cheap here that i can say...
