Default Italian Festival at St. Phillip Neri this Weekend.....

The annual St. Phillip Neri Italian Festival kicks off this Thursday evening in Fort Mill and goes until Saturday evening. No it doesn't compare to Northern Catholice Church Italian festivals, but it's better than nothing for transplanted northerners that long for a little taste of back home. It's on Munn Road in Fort Mill, about one mile off I-77, exit 85.

We went last year and it was a complete waste of time. It was a bunch of craft vendors selling junk and people milling around mumbling about how it was waste of time.

Attended the Italian festival on Saturday after the rain stopped. As BKQC mentioned, it is not a large scale fest, but we find it an enjoyable way to celebrate Italian heritage, hang out and talk to other Italians, and support a local Catholic parish. Also, the fest provides opportunity for other causes to promote themselves, too, including one of our faves, the Humane Society of York County.

The tubs and tubs and tubs of homemade Italian cookies are really all it takes for this Italian girl (along with the tiramisu and cannoli). If that were all they offered, I would go for that fact alone. It is a festival worthy of support in the hearts and minds of many locals, which is obvious from the large numbers of people in attendance. Based on some of the comments of others, it is not large enough or sophisticated enough for everyone. That's ok. It leaves more cookies for the rest of us.

Ciao!
