Default rock hill "the good & bad sides of town 2

Hello all,
I am also thinking of moving to Rock hill.
I live in Connecticut now, in the country, with very little if any crime.
(Not like Bridgeport or Hartford CT.)
Most people leave their doors unlocked around here. (not that I do)
I found a house on the internet on Neely Store RD Rock Hill, SC, near Hillside DR.
Does anyone here know the area, and have any info on crime, and if it is an area like where I live now. Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

Fort Mill schools are in more trouble than Rock Hill Schools right now. I live off India Hook Road in what also used to be well out of the city. Thankfully the quest to cut every single tree in York county down has stopped and the endless stream of vinyl villages has practically stopped.

Right now you can get some pretty nice deals on houses, however, I would not look to make much money back on any home purchase due to the economy. If you are coming to stay (and have a job lined up already) then either town is nice. All depends on what you like.

I lived in Rock Hill for 35 years. Now in Fort Mill for over 3 years. Both places are nice, but I'm staying in Fort Mill! Schools everywhere are having problems in this economy. I wouldn't agree that Fort Mill schools are having more trouble than Rock Hill's.

Hi Atitagain,
You said "Right now you can get some pretty nice deals on houses, however, I would not look to make much money back on any home purchase due to the economy. If you are coming to stay (and have a job lined up already) then either town is nice. All depends on what you like."

I am coming to stay, and I plan on doing home schooling, and I work out of my house.
So basically, I am looking for a place that has very little if any crime, with some land, and above all, safe for my children.
Also, if you know some nice deals on houses that match what I am looking for, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Anthony

"Fort Mill schools are in more trouble than Rock Hill Schools right now." Why would you say that?

I think that both Rock Hill Schools III and Fort Mill Schools are in trouble. However, now both districts suffer from the same problem practically every district in the nation has--the budget deficit issues are all rooted in our horrible economy. In South Carolina, legislation was passed to change the way the property tax works to fund public schools. The schools took a hit from this, and then the economy tanked...obviously not a good combination! There are school positions that Fort Mill has already cut, and I believe that this is coming down the pipe for Rock Hill. Fort Mill has cut some support positions, whereas Rock Hill made cuts to the District Office staff starting last school year and has not yet seen very noticeable cuts in classroom teachers or support staff. Fort Mill definitely has better schools than Rock Hill. You can do the research, and you will quickly see that there are higher test scores, Blue Ribbon-winner schools, and schools with a more involved parent base in Fort Mill. One area of comparison I do not have any information for is the per student expenditure in each district. I also do not know the student to teacher ratio in either district. However, those numbers are never true representations of actual student to teacher ratios in a classroom proper because everyone in a school with a credential/llicense is counted (i.e., special education teachers, speech therapists, nurses, guidance counselors, librarians, academic support teachers, literacy coaches/reading specialists, etc.). If I were choosing where to live based on the public schools as my sole criteria, I would move to Fort Mill or Tega Cay over Rock Hilll any day. I work in the Rock Hill District III school system.
