We were definitely not impressed. The pulled pork was ok, but it was the sides that were terrible. The baked beans - canned (could tell by taste AND the display cans in the eating area). Pinto beans - also canned. Coleslaw - "the most tasteless" my Mom had ever had. Mac and cheese - cheese baked into hardened slab on top of mac. French fries - my 5 year old didn't like them. Toasted bread - soggy and tasteless.
They seem like nice people and service was good. But honestly I can open my own can of beans at home. We eat out most every night, and are pretty easy to please, but we were disappointed in the effort that didn't go into the sides.

Just as a side note, they won 1st place in the rib catergory, in Lincolnton, NC, on Saturday, at the Hogs Happenin 2009, BBQ competition. Congrats!

Due to allergies, I asked about what was in the sauce. I was told catsup, vinegar, mustard, worcestershire and various herbs/spices. I didn't taste it so I can't comment on it.

I decided to try this place. I met one the owners and he was very nice. The customer service was good even though they were quite busy. I had a bbq sammy with a side of the smoked corn. The meat was good but I didn't really care for the sauce. I'll probably try it again but it's not something I would go out of my way for.

BBQ is a regional and personal preference. I have my favorites but I still enjoy some alternatives. Taste is all personal and after 10 years of traveling all over the country tasting BBQ I have had ones that were bad and ones that I have not liked. The only bad BBQ is where the meat is not cooked well or just an awful cut, anything beyond that is personal taste. 10 people can eat from the same cut at the same time and 4 out of 10 may not like it and that's OK.
My wife and I have been known to eat BBQ for Lunch and Dinner on a week long vacation, we have actually traveled to other parts of the country to sightsee BBQ joints.
I have not tried the FM joint yet, me and Sal beat you all too it so early they were not even open! I had 521 BBQ yesterday for lunch and liked it as usual, a month ago the wife heated up a few pints of it for dinner but added EACH AND EVERY CUP OF SAUCE I BROUGHT HOME!!! I took it all and threw it in the garbage after the first bite....it's all in the sauce at that point and it was ruined, we would have all been shooting fire out the next morning
I look forward to all new BBQ joints it's all variety. I am particular to Carolina BBQ but would like a good Georga BBQ to open up locally and every so often TX BBQ is good with some brisket and saussage. As far as Maurice...there is your example of BAD BBQ! Tried them in Columbia and at Rock Hill and not is it overpriced but it's just plain old awful both in meat and taste!

sorry you felt that way but there is alot of time spent on the sides. We add bacon, sauces and lots of seasoning are added and cooked in for flavor. Thanks for your feedback.

So we moved here from TX last summer.... My husband has tried a few places looking for that Carolina BBQ flavor to no avail. Apparently he went the FM BBQ Co. for lunch today and told me it was exactly what he'd been looking for. I'll have to try it myself, though I am partial to TX bbq.

Carolina has several different types of BBQ. What some think as "classic" carolina BBQ may be best found in Lexington NC just up from Charlotte. I would suggest Lexington BBQ right in town not too far from the highway, it's a classic and been there I think since the 30's.
Closer to home I would suggest trying Highway 521 BBQ in Indianland on the Northbound side and in Clover Courtney's BBQ on 557. I can't speak for Ft. Mill BBQ right now since I have not had a chance to go by since they opened, when I tried they were still under construction. Figures...now the whole family is on a diet. It's been 3 weeks of a body builder diet (6 feedings a day) and in another week or two I can have a cheat day, they are set in my sights already!

I like Fort Mill BBQ Company. I normally get the Pulled Pork Sammy with Mac n Cheese. I find that their meat is less fatty and burnt and they are cheaper than competitors in the area. The food taste good. They have two types of bbq sauce... 1 tomato/vinger based and another mustard based. They have awesome customer service. The only complaint I have is their sweet tea is too sugary.
