Question Communities and Schools(fort mill/tega cay) coming from CT..

Hello~~
We are looking to move from CT and have some areas in mind.

We have some houses we've found in Knightsbridge, 4 Seasons @Gold Hill, Walden Park, and then Tega Cay area: Seven Coves, Heron Harbour, and Sutton Place. Our range was 260-300$.

Trying to get an idea of area, people, children, schools, communities etc. Being that we are from North and only familiar with Waxhaw/Weddington area of NC we are unsure which way to go.. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks so much

Hi- We just looked at four seasons for my parents- it is a 55 plus community. It is very nice but probably not what you are looking for. Where will you be working because that can change location recomendations. My husband works in Lancaster so we live off Doby'd Bridge in Whitegrove which is a great community with lots of kids and open space but does not offer community ammenities like a pool, although lots of neighbors have them. We are aboput a 25 minute drive to the city -I never travel during rush hour so I can't help you with that. You could get a nice home in the "estate section" for your price range. We have several homes with basements as well. If my husband did not work in Lancaster I love the idea of Tega Cay it feels like you are living on vacation. The rec sports program there is great ! Fort Mills schools are very good so I think any neighborhood you mentioned would be nice. I also like Fair Oaks and Pleasant Knoll - but not sure if you can get the size you want/need for the price you want. Good luck,we have been here two years and love it.

Thank you for that info !! My husband and I both work from the home, so travel isnt a issue at this time. Is Tega Cay really nice? I heard it is. Where is the "estate section" and what is that? Thanks again for the support. We are really nervous. Our children are 6 and 12.

You need to check out Baxter Village. It's not for you if you want to live on a big lot, far away from your neighbors, but, for that matter, neither is Tega Cay.

Baxter has an elementary school within walking distance, two community pools and community centers, tennis courts, a YMCA with pools, work-out facilities, etc., a downtown with several good restaurants, a wine shop, barber and beauty shops, parks, sidewalks. You name it. The houses are close together, but that means everything is within walking distance. If your kids are older, they will go to the same middle and high schools as the kids from Tega Cay--you'll just be closer. A slightly longer walk or short drive gets you to Lowe's, Harris Teeter, and every fast-food place you might want. I-77 is right there, so Charlotte, Pineville, and Rock Hill are only 15-20 minutes away for malls, theaters, etc.

What we like best is that you actually get to know your neighbors. It's a real community. Homes in every price range are available.

Baxter Village

In Whitegrove when it was built it had an estae section down the center entrance and to the right half of the neighborhood and a villages section which is to the left hand side.(They no longer use any seperation of names) I only pointed that out becuase we first ruled out this neighborhood because we saw a house in the villages section and it was too small- we have 4 kids and would expect tons of visitors. On our second trip down we saw a house in the Estate section and it was just what we were looking for 5 bedrooms upstairs, a full finished basement with a guest bed and bath and so on. We liked WHitegrove because it was established (10 years old). It has bigger lots then almost anywhere else we looked plus we back up to neighborhood open space and walking trails. People are very active and always outside. I honestly feel like I landed on the perfect street.

My only other desire would to have been in Tega Cay. It is a true resort community. There are many developments within Tega Cay to consider depending on what you are interested in.

Good luck in your search.

I'm a little concerned about the schools? Should I stick to only Fort Mill schools. I also see Nation Ford?, Springfield? Riverview?. Should I stay away from the Carowinds area due to traffic and visitors? I'd like a quiet area.

All the schools you listed are all in the Fort Mill school district and well respected. Carowinds is right on the border with NC. There seems to be quite a bit of crime with the businesses located on Carowinds. Not sure what residential is located there. I don't think traffic is terrible there, but personally I'd choose a non Carowinds location.
