I hadn't been to the Rock Hill Wal Mart in quite some time, but went last night and it's night and day between that one and the one in Tega Cay / Fort Mill.

You are right about the pricing. Except I wouldn't touch their meat. I asked someone in the meat department in York where are your butchers and they contract that out. The meat arrives via truck from Pennsylvania. I have a problem with that, cutting and packing meat in Pennsylvania and adding whatever keeps it bright red and shipping it via truck to stores. Cereal prices, canned goods, cookies and crackers you can't beat Walmart's prices. I have been a Food Lion shopper since it arrived in Rock Hill and was Food Town then. I know prices and when Food Lion, Harris Teeter and the others were charging $3.00+ for rice, Walmart had same rice, same brand, same size (qty.) for $1.89.
When I worked I never shopped Walmart for groceries, Harris Teeter, Food Lion and BiLo were so convenient to my work. Walmart's idea of adding groceries was to get you in the store and lookee lookee at the great buys in this department or that department.
The economy has gone to hell in a handbasket and we (my family) have to cut as many corners as we can. So hubby and I hit Walmart every few weeks. I will be glad when the new store opens in Newport.

BKQC, the store in Tega Cay is a nice store compared to York and Rock Hill, I hope the Newport store will be like Tega Cay. The Tega Cay store is due to the citizens of Tega Cay raising so much hell about Walmart moving in and building just another big box store. I don't blame them, they ended up with a nice shopping center and Walmart store.

I like Earth Fare the best for meats, seafood, and organics, but use Bi-Lo for the commodity items. Also, Compare has a great selection of Mexican/Central American items that are hard to find elsewhere. Best produce, IMO, is the farmer's market near Home Depot.

I got to agree, I lived near the RH Wallmart and it was OK but really annoying. Too much traffic, parking stinks, little stock and as what one person said people watching, it was like a carnival side show!
We are in York now, the store is cleaner, brighter and the employees are not as rude. I believe this York store will become a SAM's Club once Newport opens up. It's going to be a pain since we live in Sharon and it's a bit more of a drive to get to Newport but hopefuly they will step it up a notch.
Never cared much for Food Lion, Harris Teeter is too far for us from here and so is the Lowes food. If you have a choice Lowes and HT are your best bet, on a rare occasion we will pack a cooler and ice and go to the RH HT and buy meat. Bi-Lo over all is OK but most of the local ones are quite outdated. Not that shelves matter much but the outdated ones usually do not have some of the specialty departments that the others have.
As I have said before WE NEED THE PUBLIX CHAIN TO OPEN UP!!! But that will never happen, they have some agreement with HT or Food Lion, I think one owns a portion of the other. 45 minute drive but I have often been tempted to head towards Spartanburg and just do a bulk buy once a month!

I just got back from Harris Teeter...wow..it is really nice, now I feel like I am in the States. No offense to anyone, going to Walmart Rock Hill makes me feel like I am in a 3rd world country.......Will try Walmart Tega Cay next week.

Don't be sorry I think I am somewhat of an open minded person and not really a snob but you got to draw the line somewhere... That somewhere is over there!
What I have seen in some other places where I have lived is when an alternate supermarket or wallmart opens in the nearby area quite often the corporation will shut down operations for 6mo to a year and remodel the older store. You can hope for that, it may clear out the "bad apples" of employees, give the others a chance to work at a clean new store and appreciate those surroundings a bit more when they return to the renovated location. Still won't solve the carnival act at the stores but sometimes it's enjoyable during the daylight hours. I know when I worked nights and stopped by on my way home it gave me the creeps sometimes since the parking lights never worked, I always packed with me at those times.

As a single person, I live on a very tight budget. I lived in Pineville and shopped at Wallyworld on S. Tryon....that's a scary place some weekends, and won't go near the place after dark. When I moved to Rock Hill, one of my co-workers "warned" me to stay away and come shop the WM in Tega Cay, "safer" she said. For several weeks I'd go back to the S. Tryon store but tried the Rock Hill store. Yes, there are 'interesting" people to people watch. But with the lower taxes, buying the same basics, I'm saving $ 15.00 a week on top of the 20 - 25 I save by going there instead of a grocery store. Harris Teeter and Lowes are very high priced. I still run into the super Bi-Lo on Cherry road for a few things. To me the saving are worth the trip. When the new store opens, I may go there, but then I may miss the people watching!!!
I've never noticed the store being dirty, but the last few weeks its been Hot hot hot inside the store and I was reminded that Wal-Mart controls the temperatures at their stores from Arkansas, so I went to the website and filed a complaint. probably won't help, but I voiced my $.02.

I don't shop at the RH Walmart ... to the north is Bowater papermill and if the wind is blowing ...whew ....the odor is bad from the papermill ... then down Red River Rd ... you will find Manchester Sewage Treatment Plant which is totally rotten if the wind is blowing. Both of these facilities cause bad odors (really rotten stuff) in that area. Of course a nasty parking lot doesn't help either.

Went to Walmart Rock Hill yesterday, bought a carton of expired eggs, returned and got the money back.
Customer service manager did not apologized and acted like it was normal.
