Clover Schools
Question about Clover schools and about Tega Cay area, because we are thinking about buying in one of these areas. Do they have sports programs? Art? Music/Orchestra/Band? Extra-curriculars?
I ask because some areas we've lived in did not have some of these classes or activities. California, for example, had no art or music. And gym class consisted of running around the perimeter of the school yard.
Thanks for any info you can offer.

Clover has sports, music, art, band, and lots of extra curricular activities - so far we have been very happy with what they offer and we feel its been a great district. What ages are you looking for?

I agree with the previous two posters. I can only speak on behalf of Clover; when I was there, the arts were very strong. It seems that the chorus and band programs have gotten stronger. Both Clover and Fort Mill schools have excellent facilities and a lot of parental and community support. Both towns take pride in their schools. Every high school in York County is in the AAAA class. That's the biggest you can get in SC. With bigger schools come more opportunities for growth, so I don't think you could go wrong with either place. Clover's more rural than Fort Mill, though, unless you live in Lake Wylie (which attends Clover schools).

I have 2 girls, ages 11 and 8. My 11 year old plays the violin and does choir/chorus. My 8 year old does gymnastics (outside of school) and would like to play an instrument once she is old enough (had to be in 4th grade in our OH school district). And I also have a little boy who is not school-aged yet. Glad to hear Clover schools offer programs in the arts, because Clover is most likely where we will be buying, I think.
One last question... I have no idea what road we were driving on, but there was some kind of large construction project going on in the Clover area. My husband thought it looked like a new high schoool, perhaps. Are they building new schools?

When I was in high school back in the '90s, we didn't have orchestra, but we did have band, chorus, drama, those such things. That may be a question worth asking an administrator at one of the middle schools or the high school for future reference, though.
Yes, Clover is opening two brand new schools in the fall. If you were in Lake Wylie, then you drove by Oakridge Middle, which is on Oakridge and 55. That school looks really nice on the outside. Larne Elementary is opening up on 321 just south of the Clover town limits. Also, the district is restructuring its schools. Up to the end of this school year, elementary school ran up to 4th grade, middle school was either grades 4-6 (according to the Crowders Creek Middle site) or grades 5-6 (at Clover Middle). Everyone went to Clover Junior High for grades 7-8, and then Clover High was 9-12. Now, elementary will be PreK-5th grade, middle school is 6-8, and high school is 9-12. Hope that helps!
