Default Commute between Rock Hill and Spartanburg

I am considering living in Rock Hill but working in Spartanburg. Would like to be near Charlotte and have found the Rock Hill area to be the closest community I like. The commute is about 55 miles each way and was wondering if there was any advice out there on traffic and convenient routes or any other thoughts?

You're looking at an easy hour and a half or longer. There's no quick way to get to Spartanburg from Rock Hill. Anytime I travel out that way I take Route 5 all the way out to I-85 and that takes about 45 minutes or so by itself. You can also drive all the way up to Charlotte and get on 85 up there, but that's way out of the way, but you can drive faster because it's all interstate.

Once they finish the SC5 widening, it should be a lot quicker to get from RH to Blacksburg, where you can hop on I85. It's still a haul though...

Yeah, definitely SC 5 to I-85 is the route you'd want to take. But personally, I'd suggest just living in Spartanburg or Greenville myself.

I agree with Akhenaton. That trip could be done in a day, but it would certainly take over an hour each direction. For what it's worth, Gastonia, NC, is a comparable size to Rock Hill, is the same distance from Charlotte as Rock Hill is (maybe a little closer depending on which side), and is directly on 85. That could shave some of your commute time, and I'm quite sure there are others who make a similar commute. Hope that helps!
