Regent Park
Just wanted to respond to all the negative comments about Regent Park...of course from people who don't even live there!!! I bought my house 3 years ago in Regent Park, and for your information home values continue to rise in the area, even in the down housing market. I had my house appraised 6 months ago and just recently. Not only did it appraise for 30,000 more than what I paid for it, but just recently it appraised for 4,000 above the appraisal 6 months ago. Not to mention....if you just take a look around there are hardly no foreclosures!!! That says a lot right now! In my opinion it is pretty smart to buy in a neighborhood that is not fully developed. You'll get a great price, and after development is complete a huge return! Regent Park is a beautiful neighborhood, and I can't wait to see the finished product.

That's terrific you're pleased with your purchase. We chose not to buy there because I didn't want to look at the creepy remnants of PTL. If all that was gone, my perception would have been much different. To each his own.

I live there as well and love it. And yes the home values increase by at least 10% value.

What is the "creepy reminents of PTL"? We're looking at Regent Park area and just curious what that is and what "negative comments" there are about this area?

Actually they have renovated some buildings. There is a church there and the high rise hotel is being made into a retirement home.

You haven't noticed the deteriorating structures and theme park ruins?

Many other remnants are still there, but some are now partially obscured by overgrown brush. If the theme park remnants are being taken out or renovated, that's great. I know people who live in the older section of Regent Park and they're happy there. I wouldn't discourage people from buying there by any means. I'm only saying it wasn't for me. There are a lot of people living there, so it's obviously appealing to others.

I am thinking of buying a townhome there. I am wondering if the 450.00 for the amenities are paid monthly or yearly. Also, do they have planned activities for all? Thanks

When I asked that question I hadn't driven through the area yet. Yes, those buildings are there, but it doesn't bother us and this is still our top choice in area because it suites our needs in every way. I was born after the PTL stuff so I don't have the same associations that older folks will have, I didn't know anything about it until this forum. To me, they're just old buildings that I know will be gone or refurbish eventually.
To answer your question nlshen: the $450 is yearly for the amenities (6 payments of about $75) but I believe there is also a monthly fee on top of that for yard maintainable and things like that associated with the townhomes. I'm going to look at some tomorrow and I'll check with my realtor about HOA fees but that's what I think I heard some one say on yorkcountymommies.com. I have no ideas about planned activities though.
