Lancaster South Carolina
I will be visiting the area next week seeking a home. I love the Ft. Mill area of SC especially a development called Bridgehampton. Its where I am 90% certain to move. But recently I have seen two homes in Lancaster. One for 599,000 and other for 499,000. I am wondering if the area has homes in that price range? Also are there malls and shops, etc. Thanks

From what I know, BridgeHampton is in Lancaster County, in Indian Land, not Ft. Mill. But to answer your question yes, there are houses in Lancaster County for the prices you mentioned. There are several new development going up throughout the county.
As far as shopping there isn't a mall. The closest malls are Pineville and Rock Hill. We have a Super Wal-Mart, Big Kmart, Belk, Goodies, Peebles, Big Lots, Dollar Tree, lots of little speciality shops. Two Food Lions, 2 Bi-Lo's, Piggly Wiggly. We also have tons of restuarants. I think the paper had listed around 100 restaurants! We have chains and we have locally owned. All types of food too.
So Lancaster isn't the boonies like everyone thinks. I rarely leave here to shop. Unless I want to go to Target or Aldi's, then I leave. But I heard we are getting an Aldi's too!

Bridgehampton actually sits within 2 states. Part of the development is within Meck. County/Charlotte, NC..while the other part sits within Lancaster County/Indian Land, SC (Indian Land uses a Fort Mill, SC zip code). It makes for a interesting subdivision as some children attend NC schools..while literally kids across the street can attend SC (Lancaster County/Indian Land, SC schools). Same situation in regard to property taxes.
But John Wieland has such a great reputation...it sure hasn't deterred to many folks. In fact John Wieland is in the beginning stages of starting another development that stadles the statelines once again (Fort Mill, SC/Pineville, NC)

John Wieland must like developments that cross state lines, especially in Indianland. In addition to Bridgehampton, they are also building in Firethorne which crosses the Lancaster/Union County NC line. Homes there are $750,000 up. I think Wieland has also proposed another bi-state development, near Legacy Park in Lancaster Co, but also extending into Union, NC. Wieland's largest development in Indianland, however, is BridgeMill, which looks very similar to Bridgehampton. It is located about 2 miles south of Bridgehampton on 521. I think it is planned to have about 700 houses and about 100 townhomes. Prices for the houses seem to range from about 500,000 to 750,000. Indianland is well located for shopping---about 5 miles to Carolina Place, closer to Stonecrest and Blakeney. We do have a Walmart Supercenter planned for construction right in Indianland for this summer...

That has been proposed, but looks like it is getting shot down by Lancaster County Planning Commission. If it does get built, the houses are supposed to range from $750,000- $1.5 million.

Being turned down by the planning commission is certainly no impediment to the project being approved by the county council, especially in Lancaster County. In fact, almost all of the rezonings in the Indianland area have been approved over the protest of the planning commission. If the county council believes the rezoning will produce revenue to support the needs of the rural portion of the county, they will approve in a heartbeat, which is why US 521 will look like Independence Blvd. or South Blvd. within 10 years.

It will be on 521. The entrances are supposed to be at Sandra and Shirley Lanes.

Is that a done deal or does it still have to be approved?

The paper said it was approved, so I guess it's a done deal.
