521 speed limits
Did anyone notice the speed limit signs were changed past the Autobell area going into Indianland? They went from 55 to 45. I didn't see any notice in the papers or warning signs. Just curious Why this happened.

Probably just due to the huge influx of people in the area and new traffic lights. Trying to control the traffic flow.

It's due to all the new stores and traffic lights! Traffic hasn't noticebly increased at all in the last 2 years...just the building! Screw them for jumping thru all the hoops of building left and right hand turn lanes, putting in safety traffic lights at busy intersections and then they lower the speed limit too. New limit goes all the way from top of the hill South of Sun City to North of Indian Land.
The three brand new Harris Teeters, four Walgreens and CVS's one or two Lowe's and a fricken Wal-mart....yeah, they can all suck-it. There's nothing like urban sprawl to improve a commute.

Three Teeters...Only one in SC, Indian Land (Sun City)... The other 2 are in Charlotte. Only 2 have opened in the last year and only one is in SC. The old one near 485 has been there for 10 years or so.

Actually, yes, the traffic has increased quite a bit in the last two years. I live in the area and have to fight a lot more traffic along 521 than I did a few years ago.

Traffic wouldn't be so bad if they actually coordinated the red lights a little better. Once you get one red, you will get all the rest of them red clear through Ballantyne. It's annoying.
IMHO, the new speed limit is nothing but a speed trap to get money for Lancaster Co. There was no announcement or anything. Just put them up one day. I went up to Pineville and on my way back, I noticed they had been changed.

Thank goodness the Dept of Transportation finally reduced the speed limit on 521. Now maybe drivers will go 60 instead of the 70-75 they are used to driving. 521 IS NOT an expressway and never was. And yes, traffic on 521 has increased significantly in the past two years.

I read in the Lancaster News one time that Lancaster didn't want Hwy. 521 to turn into a clone of Independence Blvd. from Charlotte to Monroes. Oops. Too late.

Part of the problem is the thousands of non North Carolina folks who want to come here and work. They need to maybe pay a payroll tax to help pay for the roads like we here have to do......Bet they dont want that..LOL I couldnt care less about how much trouble someone from another state has to come here and work. Afterall we are giving them a job here.
