I'm originally from MA and spent 5 years in NY.
I've been here 3 years and I love it. I do hear people complain but it isn't just northerners, it's southerners who are originally from other states. We moved here because we love the weather, culture, lower taxes and cost of housing. The north certainly has it's great points but I will never move north of SC again. As for any complaints I have, I guess they would be the blue laws. I really can't think of much else. As to the lousy driving, I think you will find bad driving habits in most places. People will complain where ever they live. It's human nature but I can understand why it will annoy the natives. And yes, the pizza blows. We've learned to like other things though, like real bbq instead.

Thank you axyssally! I am glad you like it here.
I was born here and back then the Blue Law was really tough and enforced. NOTHING was allowed to be open on Sunday. You better have your loaf bread, milk, gasoline, whatever because you would not find it on Sunday. Fines were stiff to those that would attempt to open. The Blue Law has been relaxed over the years.

Being from the Louisville, KY area originally I can see things as both a Northerner and a Southerner as Louisville is truly both. My complaints are mainly state level complaints.
I wish education was held in higher regard here (something that can be said about Kentucky as well). However, I feel the schools in York County are very much quality schools, and attitudes towards education are better than in other parts of the state.
I wish there was more racial integration in daily lives, but again I feel York County is doing better than most of the state in that aspect.
I wish there were straight path roads that connected Rock Hill to both Spartanburg and Monroe.
I do miss colder winters, but the summers here are actually much less humid than those in Louisville. Therefore, that is a push.
Other than that I really don't have a lot of other complaints. I love it here, and I am looking forward to raising my one year old child in this community.

This is one of my biggies as well! I'm from PA, three years now, and I love everything except the driving! People have an absolute pathological NEED to pull out in front of you! And then drive at a speed that is usually 10 MPH less than what you were going. And the sad part is that most of the time there is either no one or a huge gap behind me. WHY??????
The second is being in the passing lane and going slower than the regular lane. I just don't understand it. If everybody is passing you on the right (or you are pacing the car on the right) you need to move over! And don't use the excuse that you are going to make a left hand turn 5 miles down the road! Came across a girl on a moped going 15-20 MPH under the speed limit in the passing lane of a busy 4 lane (521 north from Lancaster). She was a danger to herself and everybody else there because you couldn't see her until you were right on top of her causing people to slam on their brake and/or pull in front of someone else in the right lane way too quickly.
Then there is the combo........The people who pull out into the passing lane from a right hand intersection in front of someone who is passing!
But as I said........I love everything else, so I guess I will adapt.

Usually the only complaints I hear is all the southerners complaining about all the northerners moving in!
Has it changed the look and feel of old Fort Mill and Rock Hill? Sure. But what would this area be like if it wasn't 20 minutes south of Charlotte and nobody wanted to move here? My guess is that it would look like all the other dead and dying abandoned mill towns throughout the south. I mean, how many people are moving to Chester or Great Falls?

I am native born in Rock Hill and I have no problem with northerners moving here. We built our home in 1976 and now we are surrounded by transplants. Wonderful neighbors that will do anything to help each other out. Over the years all have adapted and became southerners.
That is the key when one relocates they need to adapt to their new community not attempt to change the community to the place they just left.
I do agree on the driving ... in four lane traffic you will see sings "Slower Traffic Keep Right" ... apparently people just don't understand that one!
