Communities in Fort Mill?
My family and I are looking to move to Fort Mill/Tega Cay area in a few months. We are coming down for a visit in July and plan on looking at some communities while we are down there. We have received all sorts of direction as what to look for from where we currently are from but would like to hear it right from the folks that live there or familiar with it! We are looking for an active community (3 boys ages 1 year to 11 years of age) possibly a pool and playground for them and tennis courts for my wife and I, good schools which I heard Fort Mill is great. We are looking for a house in the area of 200K to 225K. New construction is ok as well but leaning towards a newer broken in home as I don't know if I want to deal with the new construction hair-pulling stress. Any communities that come to mind, please let me know. Thanks and God Bless

You should really check out Baxter. You might end up paying a bit more than you want, but the parks, YMCA, pools, playgrounds, restaurants, etc make up for it

Having just bought in Fort Mill I can say it is a great area. WHile our neighborhood does not have a pool or tennis court it has bike/walking trails and a playground. The best part is the friendly neighbors and all the kids avaiable for mine to play with. There are babysiiters as well. The HOA is very low and we will just join the Leroy Spring rec complex ( about 2 minutes up the road)for tennis and swimming. I would say check out WHite Grove. The schools are Fort Mill.
Although we used an agent from a different agency I found searching by neighborhood to be easiest through Allen Tate. You can just put in the name of a neighborhood you wnat to see what is avaiable.
Good luck. we love it so far.

Baxter is not in the OP's price range - unless they want a bare bones townhome.
You can get a nice home for that price in Knightsbridge, where I live. Home age is about 10 years, I believe. We have pool, playground and tennis, and the annual HOA dues are only $400 for the year. Neighborhood has activities throughout the year. Friendly people in the development. We paid higher than your price range, but there ARE homes in that range in our development.
Good luck in your search!

Although we're not in Tega Cay....you definately should take a look at our community right across the lake from Tega Cay. Sunset Point has homes/townhomes in your price range and we have a ton of kids in the neighborhood. Check out the website... mysunsetpoint.com The community has 145 homes and 85 townhomes with pool, boat storage and beachfront area.

Hey just looked up the community - thanks for link. I also looked for houses that were for sale. Can you tell me if all homes have a central access to the water ? Is it a neighborhood my very active parents would be comfortable in ? I found a house ( ranch like) at 402 Starboard Ridge. Can you tell me anything about that section of the neighborhood ?

I'm familiar with the house you are looking at, it is a split bedroom ranch with a bonus room/additional full bath. That house actually is adjacent to the front entry common area and is a pretty nice piece of property. We have a very active community where your folks would fit in well. Lots of retirees have settled in the community but we also have alot of families with kids. All of the single family homes have access to the lake on the beach area but only the lakefront homes have dock facilities.

Thanks- this may be just the place for them. They really want a master on the main would love a ranch which this seems close to. Can you tell me about the location of the high power lines I see in some photos. Do you know if there are any FSBO's on the lake ?

There is currently one FSBO on the Lake but there are power lines above that house. One thing about Wylie....it is a lake with numerous generating plants on it...so high tension wires are usually in the area in one way or another. There are no high tension electric lines near the house on Starboard other than the standard electric distribution lines you would see near homes.

We moved here in 2004 and built a new home just outside of Tega Cay, SC for 250K. If you are looking for something average, you should plan to pay 250K to 300K. Look out for the schools; the Ft. Mill school corp. cannot keep up with the development. Your child may end up in a different school than your next-door neighbor. You might want to consider waiting until the housing bubble burst here in the Charlotte area. Good Luck, E.F
