Good vet in Fort Mill area?
Could you please refer a good veterinarian to me please? We are moving down in early August if I can find us a house. I am looking for a good vet, of course, but preferably one that is personable and actually wants to know my animals. The vet's office I have here in ND (been here one year) is so impersonal!
Thank you so much!
Also, anyone know of any petsitters in the area that are good? I don't like to board my dogs. Thanks again!

We use Carolina Veterinary Specialists since they are open 24x7 and very personable. They are in Charlotte, but very close to Ft Mill. There services sometimes run a few $ more thaan other vets, but you get what you pay for, imo.

I personally use Catawba Animal Clinic in Rock Hill. I grew up in this area though and have used them for years and just have not been impressed with the vet clinics in Fort Mill to switch them. Charlotte Animal Specialists is good too and I believe that is where you are referred to for any special or unusual stuff.

Thanks so much! I'll try them both.
Do you use Frontline on your dogs or Advantix? Mine are smallish, 18 and 25 pounds. Up north for small dogs our vets have recommended Frontline but wanted to check if I need to switch them. You have to worry about that stuff year round, right? Also, do you have to get them rabies shots every year in SC?

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Tega Cay Animal Hospital & Doc Willoughby there!! He has been the vet for my 6 cat-kids for the 1 1/2 years I have lived here in Tega Cay. Doc Willoughby & his entire staff have gone above & beyond the call of duty for me, & I have never received such personable care from a vet before -- ever!! They really love animals there, & it shows in their care.
We have also had to use Carolina Veterinary Specialists whenever we have had to rush one of the kids to the vet at night or on weekends (they are Tega Cay Animal Hospital's emergency after-hours recommendation). They are very good also, but given the choice, I would go with Tega Cay Animal Hospital.

Can you go there without a referral?

I think so. I actually started using the one in Huntersville because they have the only board certified avian vet in the area and she is great. I did not need a referral for them.

Yes!! The 3 times we have had to use them, their only question has been "What happened?!?" They have never asked us "Who referred you?"

My vet recommended Frontline and the seperate Heartguard pills. Is advantix the one that covers both fleas/ticks and heartworms? Anyway, my vet recommended Frontline and Heartguard because he said it covers a few more parasites the the all in one and I have a young child in the house. It's just a bit extra precaution.
What ever you do make sure it is one that covers ticks! My neighbor and now very good friend moved her from Nevada and come to find out she has been using just the Advantage which apparently doesn't cover ticks. She was finding tick after tick in her house and on her dogs and last week her and one of her dogs came down with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever! The other dog had iffy blood tests results.
